Then the king sent and got together all the responsible men of Judah and of Jerusalem.

And the king went up to the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah and all the people of Jerusalem, and the priests and the prophets and all the people, small and great; and they were present at his reading of the book of the law which had come to light in the house of the Lord.

And the king took his place by the pillar, and made an agreement before the Lord, to go in the way of the Lord, and keep his orders and his decisions and his rules with all his heart and all his soul, and to keep the words of the agreement recorded in the book; and all the people gave their word to keep the agreement.

Then the king gave orders to Hilkiah, the chief priest, and to the priests of the second order, and to the keepers of the door, to take out of the house of the Lord all the vessels made for Baal and for the Asherah and for all the stars of heaven; and he had them burned outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and took the dust of them to Beth-el.

And he put an end to the false priests, who had been put in their positions by the kings of Judah to see to the burning of offerings in the high places in the towns of Judah and the outskirts of Jerusalem, and all those who made offerings to Baal and to the sun and the moon and the twelve signs and all the stars of heaven.

And he took the Asherah from the house of the Lord, outside Jerusalem to the stream Kidron, burning it by the stream and crushing it to dust, and he put the dust on the place where the bodies of the common people were put to rest.

And he had the houses pulled down of those who were used for sex purposes in the house of the Lord, where women were making robes for the Asherah.

And he made all the priests from the towns of Judah come into Jerusalem, and he made unclean the high places where the priests had been burning offerings, from Geba to Beer-sheba; and he had the high places of the evil spirits pulled down which were by the doorway of Joshua, the ruler of the town, on the left side of the way into the town.

Still the priests of the high places never came up to the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem; but they took their food of unleavened bread among their brothers.

And Topheth, in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, he made unclean, so that no man might make his son or his daughter go through the fire to Molech.

NO “FIM”, PARTICIPAÇÕES DETERMINANTES
Marcos 13-14
Há três “fins” nesta leitura. O “Fim dos Tempos” virá a ser o final da história deste contexto de mundo em que vivemos, que acontecerá quando Jesus voltar a este mundo em poder e grande glória. O fim da vida ministerial terrestre de Jesus aconteceu pelos seus últimos atos antes de ser crucificado na cruz do Calvário. Estes dois fins têm a ver com a maneira que se desencadeará o seu fim. O tratamento que dá a Jesus determina o modo como O espera em sua vinda e será o determinante do seu destino eterno. Este é o terceiro fim.
Sobre o fim do mundo já ficou bem comentado aqui no último dia 12 (Mateus 24). Mas o capítulo 14 de Marcos, narrando os últimos eventos antes do fim da vida de Cristo, começa e termina com dois personagens que podem, muito bem, refletir-nos. Jesus foi ungido em Betânia (“casa dos pobres; casa da miséria”) por Maria Madalena, a ex-endemoninhada que fora prostituta. Jesus foi negado no pátio da casa do sumo sacerdote (o representante de Deus) por Simão Pedro, o ex-pescador que fora discípulo. Uma mesma história pode ter diferentes fins? Como você quer que seja o fim da sua história?
Compare Marcos 14:3-9 com Mateus 26:6-13 e João 12: 1-11, e pense no contexto. Aconteceu numa cidadela pequena e feia. Na casa de um camarada odiado por muitos, de conduta questionada e que tinha tido a pior de todas as doenças da época, o clima era o da discriminação. E para completar a história, entra uma representante da pior das castas. O que não faltava naquele ambiente era constrangimento. Várias facetas da vergonha humana estavam ali estampadas, ou, à flor da estampa. Malícias e maldades não pareciam dar lugar a nada relacionado à misericórdia. Mas Paulo disse que “onde aumentou o pecado, transbordou a graça (Romanos 5:20)”! Contemple você mesmo. Leia!
Agora observe os textos paralelos a Marcos 14:66-72: Mateus 26:69-75; Lucas 22:54-62 e João 18:15-27, tentando imaginar a cena. Aconteceu na mais gloriosa cidade Judaica: Jerusalém. A capital, cujo nome significa “cidade de paz”. Na casa daquele que ocupava a posição que qualquer um cobiçaria. Muitos sacerdotes pagariam fortunas para comprar, por pelo menos um ano, o título de “sumo”. A polícia romana estava ali, exibindo seus lindos trajes da ordem e da decência (humanas). As pessoas estavam descontraídas, aquecendo-se ao fogo. Todo mundo numa boa. Todavia, ensinou Paulo, “aquele que julga estar firme, cuide-se para que não caia (1Coríntios 10:12)!”. Veja! Entenda!
