In the third year of the rule of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem, shutting it in with his forces.

And the Lord gave into his hands Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with some of the vessels of the house of God; and he took them away into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he put the vessels into the store-house of his god.

And the king gave orders to Ashpenaz, the captain of his unsexed servants, to take in some of the children of Israel, certain of the king's family, and those of high birth;

Young men who were strong and healthy, good-looking, and trained in all wisdom, having a good education and much knowledge, and able to take positions in the king's house; and to have them trained in the writing and language of the Chaldaeans.

And a regular amount of food and wine every day from the king's table was ordered for them by the king; and they were to be cared for for three years so that at the end of that time they might take their places before the king.

And among these there were, of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

And the captain of the unsexed servants gave them names; to Daniel he gave the name of Belteshazzar, to Hananiah the name of Shadrach, to Mishael the name of Meshach, and to Azariah the name of Abed-nego.

And Daniel had come to the decision that he would not make himself unclean with the king's food or wine; so he made a request to the captain of the unsexed servants that he might not make himself unclean.

And God put into the heart of the captain of the unsexed servants kind feelings and pity for Daniel.

And the captain of the unsexed servants said to Daniel, I am in fear of my lord the king, who has given orders about your food and your drink; what if he sees you looking less happy than the other young men of your generation? then you would have put my head in danger from the king.

ALGUMAS EXPLICAÇÕES
IsaÃas 45-48
Quero entregar-lhe algumas chaves teológicas. Creio que com elas você conseguirá abrir as portas que interpretam o principal do texto bÃblico de hoje. Sempre que lemos uma passagem bÃblica, queremos entendê-la, não é mesmo?
Por exemplo, você consegue dar uma explicação bÃblica sobre o rei Ciro? A referência é IsaÃas 45:1-13. Nesse texto, temos a comissão de Ciro. Do verso catorze em diante, o apresentado é Deus, o Salvador de todas as nações. Uma tentativa de esboçar a primeira parte desse capÃtulo, ou melhor, a obra de Ciro, nos dá a oportunidade de aprendermos três lições:
1) As nações daquela época seriam sujeitas ao rei Ciro. Seu destino não seria governar apenas um reino. Ele seria um tipo de homem mundialmente poderoso;
2) As portas iriam abrir-se diante de Ciro;
3) Os tesouros das nações seriam entregues ao rei Ciro.
Em IsaÃas 45:4-7, encontramos as razões do chamado de Ciro: a) Para que Israel fosse liberado; b) Para que a soberania divina fosse demonstrada (o verso 7 refere-se ao mal fÃsico = calamidade).
Da mesma forma, nos versos 8-13, aprendemos que a autoridade divina não pode ser questionada, pois Deus é o Criador e Mantenedor da própria justiça. A criatura querer arguir com o Criador é uma audácia. A autoridade de Deus sobre a natureza e a História é soberana.
Mas a segunda parte de IsaÃas 45 é a mais bonita, porque apresenta Deus como o Salvador de todas as nações. A previsão do autor era a de que mesmo os gentios reconheceriam a grande verdade de que não existe outro Deus além do Senhor Jeová (versos 14 e 15). Os idólatras podem até ser confundidos, mas aqueles que confiam em Deus jamais são confundidos (versos 16 e 17). A partir do verso 18, o profeta descreve que Deus é um Deus de ordem, pois triunfa sobre o próprio caos. Ele dá pronunciamentos que são verdadeiros. Veja o apelo que Ele faz a todas as nações versos 20-24, onde nos são mostradas a futilidade do culto idólatra, a realidade de que no Senhor há salvação para todos e a consciência radical de que mesmo os rebeldes, um dia, reconhecerão a vontade de Deus. Esse apelo deveria deixar-nos boquiabertos. A intenção do Senhor é justificar TODA a descendência de Israel, inclusive, do Israel espiritual (verso 25).
Isso é um resumo de IsaÃas 45. Mas existem muitas coisas boas para explorar. Se você quiser um resumo dos outros capÃtulos, com inclusão dos capÃtulos de ontem e de anteontem, leia IsaÃas 48. Esse capÃtulo resume e conclui todo o trecho de IsaÃas 40-47.
