When the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.

|Esdras 3:2|
Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brothers, and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

"They set the altar on its base; for fear was on them because of the peoples of the countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon to Yahweh, even burnt offerings morning and evening."

"They kept the feast of tents, as it is written, and [offered] the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the ordinance, as the duty of every day required;"

and afterward the continual burnt offering, and [the offerings] of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of Yahweh that were consecrated, and of everyone who willingly offered a freewill offering to Yahweh.

From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings to Yahweh: but the foundation of the temple of Yahweh was not yet laid.

"They gave money also to the masons, and to the carpenters; and food, and drink, and oil, to them of Sidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia."

Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all those who were come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of the house of Yahweh.

Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brothers the Levites.

When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of Yahweh, they set the priests in their clothing with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise Yahweh, after the order of David king of Israel.

MAIS DO QUE HOMEM

Para o dia 18 de Dezembro (não ontem) de 1970, o livro “Meditações Matinais” da Casa Publicadora Brasileira apresentou um comentário – “Mais do que Homem” – sobre um verso de 1Pedro, que quero compartilhar com você, aqui.
“Quando insultado, não revidava; quando sofria, não fazia ameaças, mas entregava-se àquele que julga com justiça (2:23)”.
Quando Pedro, já idoso, lançou um olhar retrospectivo ao passado, quando estava com o Senhor, lembrou-se vivamente de Sua paciência e longanimidade. Pedro mesmo havia aprendido essas graças de Jesus, como se deu com milhares de Seus seguidores.
O Dr. Peale conta o seguinte caso: “Estava um dia o piedoso Wesley pregando num bairro muito pobre de Londres... Súbito surgiram dois rufiões. Disseram um ao outro: ‘Quem é esse pregador? Vamos mostrar-lhe o que lhe vai acontecer. Que direito tem ele de intrometer-se aqui, para desmanchar nosso prazer?’. Cada um deles tomou uma pedra e beligerantemente acotovelaram caminho através da turba, até chagar a uma distância conveniente do pregador. Então ergueram o braço com a pedra, dispostos a apedrejar o rosto de Wesley, quando, ao descrever ele o poder de Cristo para transformar a vida dos pecadores, uma resplandecente luz se espalhou no rosto do orador, luz maravilhosa que o deixou como transfigurado. Ficaram estupefatos, o braço ainda erguido. Um dirigiu-se ao outro e disse, com um tom de reverência na voz: ‘Ele não é homem, Bill! Ele não é homem’. As pedras caíram-lhes da mão para o chão, e ao ouvirem a Wesley, o coração se lhes enterneceu. Afinal, terminando o sermão, o grande pregador atravessou a multidão, que respeitosamente se abriu para deixá-lo passar. Um dos rufiões muito timidamente estendu a mao para tocar a aba do paletó do pregador, e ao assim fazer, despertou-se a atenção de Wesley sobre ele e seu companheiro. Estendeu então ambas as mãos e colocou-as sobre a cabeça dos rufiões e disse: ‘Deus os abençoe, meus rapazes!’. Saiu então, e um dos desordeiros volveu-se ao outro e disse, com voz ainda mais respeitosa: ‘Ele é homem, Bill; ele é homem!’. É um homem semelhante a Deus’!” – You Can Win, pág. 72.
As graças da paciência e da bondade caracterizam ainda os cristãos como sendo “mais do que homens”. Essas graças são especialmente valiosas num mundo como o nosso, cheio de violência e ódio. Elas identificam o cristão com seu Senhor.
Portanto, creio que vale a pena ler de novo: “Quando insultado, não revidava; quando sofria, não fazia ameaças, mas entregava-se àquele que julga com justiça (2:23)”. Mas não prenda-se somente a este verso. Vença suas tendências humanas, e leia todo o livro 1Pedro, ainda hoje.
