É verdade que Paulo quase convenceu Agripa a se tornar um cristão? O que isso tem a ver conosco?
A maioria das traduções do Novo Testamento sugere que Agripa estava dizendo algo mais ou menos assim: “Você acha que num período tão curto de tempo vai persuadir-me a ser cristão?” ou ainda: “Você pensa que não vai precisar de muito tempo para me convencer e fazer de mim um cristão”. Outras traduções, entretanto, discordam. A tradução que tomamos por padrão em nossos comentários bíblicos, a NVI, apesar de descrever: “Então Agripa disse a Paulo: “Você acha que em tão pouco tempo pode convencer-me a tornar-me cristão?”, traz, na nota de rodapé, a observação de que poderia ser traduzido por “por pouco você me convence a tornar-me cristão”. E examinando os textos na língua original, vemos que esta é a melhor tradução, para Atos 26:28.
Mas, sem tentarmos resolver o problema, permanece o fato de que alguns quase se entregam a Cristo, mas por fim deixam de fazê-lo.
Durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial, as forças navais britânicas e francesas receberam a tarefa de abrir os Dardanelos para possibilitar que os Aliados obtivessem o cereal necessário e ao mesmo tempo entregassem as armas e munições aos aliados russos. Depois de lutar e sofrer perdas moderadas, mas não excessivas, os Aliados chegaram ao principal forte turco e se envolveram num duelo de artilharia com ele. Mas no dia 19 de maio de 1917 retrocederam e, embora a campanha Gallipoli se arrastasse por mais um ano, acabou numa humilhante retirada dos Aliados.
Depois da guerra, os Aliados souberam que, noa ocasiaão de sua retirada, o forte turco estava a ponto de render-se. O seu armamento estava reduzido a menos de 30 bombas. Se o ataque tivesse continuado no dia seguinte, o forte teria caído e a guerra teria tomado um rumo completamente diferente.
Hebreus 10:38 nos fala daqueles que, em vez de prosseguirem no ataque da guerra espiritual até obter a vitória, retiram-se e se perdem.
Paradoxalmente, a vitória nessa guerra significa rendição – uma rendição total do eu a Cristo. É trágico o fato de que muitos cristãos professos haverão de perder-se porque deixaram de continuar atacando até à vitória final. Nesta guerra, quase mas não completamente salvo significa estar não quase mas completamente perdido.
Fico feliz porque o seguinte verso, Hebreus 10:39, termina com um tom positivo. O texto prossegue assim: “Nós, porém, não somos dos que retrocedem e são destruídos, mas dos que crêem e são salvos”.
Que você e eu tenhamos essa experiência na guerra espiritual em que estamos envolvidos.
