|Daniel 7:1|
In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel hath seen a dream, and the visions of his head on his bed, then the dream he hath written, the chief of the things he hath said.

|Daniel 7:2|
Answered hath Daniel and said, `I was seeing in my vision by night, and lo, the four winds of the heavens are coming forth to the great sea;

and four great beasts are coming up from the sea, diverse one from another.

The first [is] like a lion, and it hath an eagle`s wings. I was seeing till that its wings have been plucked, and it hath been lifted up from the earth, and on feet as a man it hath been caused to stand, and a heart of man is given to it.

And lo, another beast, a second, like to a bear, and to the same authority it hath been raised, and three ribs [are] in its mouth, between its teeth, and thus they are saying to it, Rise, consume much flesh.

`After this I was seeing, and lo, another like a leopard, and it hath four wings of a fowl on its back, and four heads hath the beast, and dominion is given to it.

`After this I was seeing in the visions of the night, and lo, a fourth beast, terrible and fearful, and exceedingly strong; and it hath iron teeth very great, it hath consumed, yea, it doth break small, and the remnant with its feet it hath trampled; and it [is] diverse from all the beasts that [are] before it; and it hath ten horns.

`I was considering about the horns, and lo, another horn, a little one, hath come up between them, and three of the first horns have been eradicated from before it, and lo, eyes as the eyes of man [are] in this horn, and a mouth speaking great things.

`I was seeing till that thrones have been thrown down, and the Ancient of Days is seated, His garment as snow [is] white, and the hair of his head [is] as pure wool, His throne flames of fire, its wheels burning fire.

A flood of fire is proceeding and coming forth from before Him, a thousand thousands do serve Him, and a myriad of myriads before Him do rise up, the Judge is seated, and the books have been opened.

CYRUS MCCORMICK
Mateus 27-28
Somos pais. E sabemos que, como seres humanos, nós pais falhamos. Não somos perfeitos. Há um anseio por um pai perfeito. Mas será que ele existe? Para pensarmos sobre isto, quero destacar Mateus 28:20: “Eu estarei com vocês até o fim dos tempos”, e contar-lhe a seguinte história, que li num material que foi escrito para infantes que ainda dependem dos seus pais.
Com 22 anos de idade, Cyrus observava como seu pai, Robert McCormick, conferia cada porca e parafuso, casa roda, garra e correia da nova colheitadeira. As seis foices montadas numa barra de madeira reluziam naquela manhã ensolarada.
- Ela está pronta para rodar! – disse o Pastor McCormick.
Os cavalos esforçavam-se puxando a máquina vagarosamente pelo campo de grãos dourados. As garras pegavam os retos e fortes talos de trigo e os puxavam contra a faca.
- Olhe como vai! – Cyrus gritou.
- O verdadeiro teste está pela frente – disso o pai quando eles se aproxiamaram de um trecho do campo inclinado pelo vento.
Cyrus prendeu a respiração quando as foices passaram sobre os talos quebrados dos grãos espremendo-os sobre o chão.
- A coisa é um fracasso! – disse Robert McCormick, muito nervoso, sacudindo as rédeas dos cavalos, e trazendo a colheitadeira à cocheira. – Há vinte anos estou tentando fazer uma colheitadeira e sempre acaba como esta, um fracasso! Eu estou acabado.
- Mas, pai – objetou Cyrus – Ela cortou bem no início.
- E que adianta isto? – revidou o pai . – Nenhuma colheitadeira pode ser contada como um sucesso a menos que ela corte bem, chova ou faça sol, colhendo talos eretos ou grãos derrubados. Você não pode ter um campo feito sob medida. Você deveria saber disto, Cyrus.
- Sim, pai – respondeu Cyrus – mas eu ainda acho que deve haver uma maneira. Eu gostaria de tentar.
- Vá em frente – suspirou o pai, sacudindo os ombros. – Eu ficaria orgulhoso se meu filho tivesse sucesso onde fracassei.
Três anos depois, em 1834, Cyrus obteve sua patente para uma colheitadeira que trabalhava com sol ou chuva, com talos eretos ou grãos derrubados, em terra plana ou acidentada.
A vida, como os campos de cereais, não é feita sob medida. Há tempos agitados e dias chuvosos. Para ter sucesso, precisamos mais que um Deus de tempo bom. Necessitamos de um Deus para todas as estações. Alguém que pode erguer-nos quando estamos tortos e quebrados. Alguém que pode ajudar-nos quando estamos derrotados.
“Eu sou esta espécie de Deus”, disse Jesus, com Seu gesto estampado nos dois capítulos propostos para a leitura bíblica de hoje.
