And they gave the king's orders to the king's captains and the rulers across the river, and they gave the people and the house of God the help which was needed.

Now after these things were done, the captains came to me and said, The people of Israel and the priests and Levites have not kept themselves separate from the people of the lands, but have taken part in the disgusting ways of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

For they have taken their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the peoples of the lands; and in fact the captains and rulers have been the first to do this evil.

And hearing this, with signs of grief and pulling out the hair of my head and my chin, I took my seat on the earth deeply troubled.

Then everyone who went in fear of the words of the God of Israel, because of the sin of those who had come back, came together to me; and I kept where I was, overcome with grief, till the evening offering.

And at the evening offering, having made myself low before God, I got up, and with signs of grief, falling down on my knees, with my hands stretched out to the Lord my God,

I said, O my God, shame keeps me from lifting up my face to you, my God: for our sins are increased higher than our heads and our evil-doing has come up to heaven.

From the days of our fathers till this day we have been great sinners; and for our sins, we and our kings and our priests have been given up into the hands of the kings of the lands, to the sword and to prison and to loss of goods and to shame of face, as it is this day.

And now for a little time grace has come to us from the Lord our God, to let a small band of us get free and to give us a nail in his holy place, so that our God may give light to our eyes and a measure of new life in our prison chains.

For we are servants; but our God has not been turned away from us in our prison, but has had mercy on us before the eyes of the kings of Persia, to give us new strength to put up again the house of our God and to make fair its waste places, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.

SOFONIAS ENSINA
Sofonias
Sofonias, assim como IsaÃas, era profeta de sangue real. Ele viveu na mesma época em que ministravam também uma mulher chamada Hulda, a profetisa, e o conhecido profeta Jeremias, durante o reinado de Josias. Este profeta, Sofonias, era tataraneto do importante rei Ezequias. Portanto, era um homem de posição e prestigio entre o povo. Ele profetizou logo depois da primeira reforma de Josias. Era uma época muito difÃcil. Os reis que haviam reinado antes, Manasses de Amon, haviam levado a nação a uma profunda apostasia, de forma que o povo praticava idolatria como algo comum de seu cotidiano. Este é o único livro profético em que a genealogia do profeta se remonta a quatro gerações.
O livro divide-se em três partes: a) O dia da ira do Senhor (Sofonias 1:1-18); b) Os juÃzos contra as nações vizinhas (Sofonias 2:1-15); e c) O pecado de Jerusalém e a sua redenção (Sofonias 3:1-20).
O nome Sofonias significa "o Senhor o escondeu". O tema de sua mensagem é que o Senhor ainda está firmemente em controle do Seu mundo, apesar das aparências contrárias, e que comprovará isto no futuro próximo ao aplicar um castigo terrivel sobre a nação desobediente de judá, e completa destruição sobre as nações pagãs gentias. somente através dum arrependimento em tempo é que haveria possibilidade de escape a esta ira.
O profeta Sofonias também ensina que o coração pobre é o único que ama sem limites, que pratica a justiça e põe sua esperança no Senhor Deus. É claro que esse parâmetro de pobreza-riqueza, ainda que ilustrado pelos bens materiais, transcende aos mesmos. É possÃvel que um coração que possua muitos bens não tenha espÃrito altivo, assim como também é possÃvel que um coração destituÃdo de bens esteja cheio de orgulho. Mas Jesus explicou bem isto, em Mateus 5, quando disse que bem-aventurados são os pobres de espÃrito, porque deles é o reino dos céus.
Mas a mensagem central deste livro é quanto à brevidade do Dia do Senhor. Sofonias faz questão de demonstrar claramente quais são as implicações da chegada deste dia da vinda de Deus, como cumprimento de todo o Seu propósito para com a humanidade. A revelação de Sofonias e dos demais profetas acerca de Deus é pálida. Na profecia, fica claro que será em Sua vinda que o Senhor se revelará em toda a Sua plenitude.
E nisto está a beleza do sonho que Deus tem para nós, que pode ser apreciado no último verso do livro, como uma mensagem de esperança para nós cristãos, que temos uma só fé, mas estamos dispersos por este mundo cheio de perversos. Leia em sua BÃblia.
