Now when all this was over, all the men of Israel who were present went out into the towns of Judah, causing the stone pillars to be broken up and the wood pillars to be cut down, pulling down the high places and the altars in all Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and Manasseh, till all were gone. Then all the children of Israel went back to their towns, every man to his property.

Then Hezekiah put in order the divisions of the priests and Levites, every man in his division, in relation to his work, for the burned offerings and peace-offerings, and for the ordering of worship and for giving praise at the doors of the Lord's house.

And he gave the king's part of his private property for the burned offerings, that is, for the morning and evening offerings, and the offerings for the Sabbath and the new moons and the regular feasts, as it is recorded in the law of the Lord.

In addition, he gave orders to the people of Jerusalem to give to the priests and Levites that part which was theirs by right, so that they might be strong in keeping the law of the Lord.

And when the order was made public, straight away the children of Israel gave, in great amounts, the first-fruits of their grain and wine and oil and honey, and of the produce of their fields; and they took in a tenth part of everything, a great store.

And the children of Israel and Judah, who were living in the towns of Judah came with the tenth part of their oxen and sheep, and a tenth of all the holy things which were to be given to the Lord their God, and put them in great masses.

The first store of things was put down in the third month, and in the seventh month the masses were complete.

And when Hezekiah and the rulers came and saw all the store of goods, they gave praise to the Lord and to his people Israel.

Then Hezekiah put questions to the priests and Levites about the store of goods.

And Azariah, the chief priest, of the family of Zadok, said in answer, From the time when the people first came with their offerings into the house of the Lord, we have had food enough, and more than enough: for the blessing of the Lord is on his people; and there is this great store which has not been used.

BARNABÉ – FILHO DA CONSOLAÇÃO
Atos 13-15
Quando eu era criança, nos acampamentos de retiro espiritual dos cristãos, costumava ouvir os jovens, ao embalo das palmas, do violão, da caixa e da gaita, com sorrisos nos rostos, cantarem: “era seu nome Barnabé, natural de Chipre”. Era uma melodia bem gostosa, e muitas vezes a cantei. Mas nem sabia quem era Barnabé. Por outro lado, quantas vezes lemos o livro de Atos, e ignoramos ali a presença de um dos seus principais personagens: Barnabé, “Filho de Consolação”.
Esse (Barnabé) era o cognome de José, um levita (Atos 4:36). O seu nome é o primeiro de uma lista de profetas e professores da igreja de Antioquia (Atos 13:1). Lucas diz que ele é um bom homem (Atos 11:24). Os seus pais eram judeus, da tribo de Levi. Ele era natural de Chipre, onde possuía uma herdade (Atos 4:36-37), que vendeu. Parece ter tido uma aparência digna e que sobressaía (Atos 14:11-12). Quando Paulo voltou a Jerusalém após a sua conversão, Barnabé apresentou-o aos apóstolos (Atos 9:27). É provável que tivessem sido colegas na escola de Gamaliel.
A prosperidade da igreja de Antioquia fez com que os apóstolos e irmãos enviassem para lá Barnabé como superintendente. Ali ele encontrou o trabalho já tão avançado e instalado em força, que foi até Tarso à procura de Saulo para que este o assistisse. Saulo voltou com ele para Antioquia e trabalhou ali durante um ano (Atos 11:25-26).
No fim deste período, foram enviados ambos para Jerusalém, com as contribuições que a igreja de Antioquia tinha juntado para os irmãos mais pobres daquela cidade (Atos 11:28-30). Pouco tempo após o seu regresso, trazendo com eles João Marcos, foram nomeados missionários para o mundo pagão e assim investidos, visitaram Chipre e algumas cidades da Ásia Menor (Atos 13:14). Ao voltarem a Antioquia, depois da primeira viagem missionária que realizaram, foram novamente enviados para Jerusalém, a fim de aí consultarem a igreja sobre a relação desta com os gentios (Atos 15:2; Gálatas 2:1).
Com este assunto resolvido, eles voltaram para Antioquia, trazendo consigo o decreto do Conselho que serviria de regra para a admissão dos gentios na igreja.
Quando já estavam preparados para a sua segunda viagem missionária, Saulo e Barnabé discutiram por causa de João Marcos. A discussão terminou com a separação de ambos. Saulo levou consigo Silas e eles viajaram através da Síria e Sicília. Barnabé, levando consigo o seu sobrinho João Marcos, dirigiu-se para Chipre (Atos 15:36-41). Barnabé não volta a ser mencionado por Lucas em Atos.
