And the king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.

And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Beth-el.

And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places around Jerusalem; them also that burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder of it upon the graves of the children of the people.

And he broke down the houses of the sodomites that were by the house of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the grove.

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burnt incense, from Geba to Beer-sheba, and broke down the high places of the gates that were in the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

Nevertheless, the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they ate of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

CANTO DA IGREJA
SALMOS 23-30
Penso que você conhece as palavras: “O Senhor é o meu pastor, e nada me faltará.” Essa é a letra de uma canção que está na abertura da leitura de hoje: o Salmo 23, escrito pelo rei Davi. Apesar de não recitarmos essas palavras em forma de melodia muitas vezes, essa era uma canção.
Davi escreveu muitas outras canções. Apesar de que nem todos os Salmos tenham sido escritos por ele, ao ler os capítulos para este dia, vemos que todos os salmos são “davídicos”. Embora não sendo redundantes, eles são bem parecidos. Ao dizer “parecidos”, refiro-me ao estilo. Será que isso acontece só porque foram escritos pelo mesmo compositor? Pode ser, mas não é só isso. Todos se aplicam a um mesmo contexto social, que é meio comunitário em que os israelitas viviam na Palestina, há uns três mil anos. Mas é interessante que quando chegamos no Salmo 30, quebra essa uniformidade de estilo porque esse salmo é uma música que Davi fez especialmente para a dedicação do tempo. E música para ser cantada na igreja precisa ser especial.
Ela deve louvar e adorar, pois a casa de Deus é lugar para adorá-Lo. Em Isaías 56:7 aprendemos sobre isso. Ao submetermos um cântico dentro do recinto sagrado, devemos analisar se ele serve de instrumento de prestação de adoração. Se a música não puder conduzir os adoradores à veneração ao sagrado, provavelmente não será apropriada para usá-la nos átrios do Senhor. Mas isso não quer dizer que se a música não serve para ser usada na igreja, então ela é pecaminosa. Afinal, existem músicas que embora sejam de louvor, não adoram. Em toda adoração deve existir louvor, mas nem sempre há adoração em todo louvor. A música na igreja deve ser “o preguinho na parede que segura o quadro Jesus”.
Portanto, quando o líder da igreja seleciona as músicas para ser usadas na igreja, ele precisa analisar o contexto e as pessoas que participarão, executando-as e ouvindo-as. Se a música levar a maior parte das pessoas a Jesus, num espírito de adoração e louvor, sem ruído de comunicação, é adequada; caso contrário, deve ser substituída (mas tal substituição não quer dizer que em outro contexto a música não seja adequada), a despeito dos gostos particulares. Cabe, também, aos que lidam com a música na igreja ter humildade suficiente que um mensageiro de Deus precisa ter, de submeter a escolha de cada música para contexto não segundo seus caprichos, mas segundo o que for melhor para a membresia presente no tempo e local de cada contexto.
