The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, who were carried away captive to Babylon.

And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, The LORD thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.

Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thy hand. If it seemeth good to thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well to thee: but if it seemeth ill to thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

Now while he had not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wherever it seemeth convenient to thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him provisions and a reward, and let him go.

Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, swore to them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to serve the Chaldeans, who will come to us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.

Entrei em um site de busca na internet e comecei a digitar perguntas como: “que tipo de homens o mundo precisa?” Fui surpreendido com uma triste realidade: na verdade, o mundo nem sabe do que precisa. Nosso “mundão” está perdido, no sentido mais literal possível da palavra. Sabe quando se está tão perdido que não se sabe nem como começar a procurar o caminho de volta? É isso: o mundo não conhece sua própria necessidade.
Mas, nessa busca, encontrei um blog com um comentário de uma escritora norte-americana em um dos livros mais vendidos no mundo sobre educação: “A maior necessidade do mundo é a de homens. Homens que não se comprem e nem se vendam. Homens que no íntimo da alma sejam verdadeiros e honestos. Homens que não tenham medo de apontar quem faz o mal. Homens que sejam tão fiéis ao dever, como a bússola é ao pólo. Homens que permaneçam firmes pelo que é reto, ainda que caiam os céus” (Educação, pág. 57).
Concordo com essa escritora, afinal, a maior necessidade do mundo é que haja mais pessoas de caráter, dedicadas ao serviço divino de servir a humanidade. Isso é muito raro de encontrar.
Na nossa leitura bíblica, encontramos o último homem de liderança assim no reino de Judá: Josias. Quando estamos lendo o livro de Reis, ao encontrarmos o comentário de que o rei fazia o que era mal aos olhos do Senhor, dá uma tristeza muito grande. Mas quando é de um rei que fazia o que o Senhor aprova, é muito bom. Sobre Josias, a Bíblia não fala que ele fazia apenas o que Deus aprova. Diferentemente de todos os outros homens que estiveram no lugar dele, ela faz questão de comentar: “Nem antes, nem depois de Josias houve um rei como ele, que se voltasse para o Senhor de todo o coração, de toda a alma e de todas as suas forças, de acordo com toda a Lei de Moisés” (2Reis 23:25). Isso é lindo, não é mesmo? Imagine, a Bíblia chegar a fazer um comentário diferente desse! Se você ler a história como um todo, no final do livro de Reis, verá que Josias fez a diferença. Ele reinou 31 anos e fez uma grande reforma na nação; foi o último líder de Judá. Depois dele, nenhum outro mais fez o que o Senhor aprova e os judeus nunca mais voltaram a ter uma monarquia estabelecida.
A necessidade hoje continua a mesma. A maior necessidade do mundo é a de homens fiéis ao dever e que permaneçam firmes pelo que é reto de forma inegociável. Você se candidata?
