And it cometh to pass after this, that Nahash king of the sons of Ammon dieth, and his son reigneth in his stead,

and David saith, `I do kindness with Hanun son of Nahash, for his father did with me kindness;` and David sendeth messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And the servants of David come in unto the land of the sons of Ammon, unto Hanun, to comfort him,

and the heads of the sons of Ammon say to Hanun, `Is David honouring thy father, in thine eyes, because he hath sent to thee comforters? in order to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out, the land, have not his servants come in unto thee?`

And Hanun taketh the servants of David, and shaveth them, and cutteth their long robes in the midst, unto the buttocks, and sendeth them away.

And [some] go, and declare to David concerning the men, and he sendeth to meet them -- for the men have been greatly ashamed -- and the king saith, `Dwell in Jericho till that your beard is grown, then ye have returned.`

And the sons of Ammon see that they have made themselves abhorred by David, and Hanun and the sons of Ammon send a thousand talents of silver, to hire to them, from Aram-Naharaim, and from Aram-Maachah, and from Zobah, chariots and horsemen;

and they hire to them two and thirty thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people, and they come in and encamp before Medeba, and the sons of Ammon have been gathered out of their cities, and come in to the battle.

And David heareth, and sendeth Joab, and all the host of the mighty men,

and the sons of Ammon come out and set battle in array at the opening of the city, and the kings who have come [are] by themselves in the field.

Provérbios 08-11
O que são provérbios? Segundo a “Wikipédia”, uma enciclopédia livre da internet, um provérbio “é uma sentença de caráter prático e popular, que expressa em forma sucinta, e não raramente figurativa, uma ideia ou pensamento.” Parece que complicou mais que ajudou? Provérbio é um pensamento legal que geralmente diz uma coisa boa e verdadeira. Nem sempre, mas quase sempre. Existem alguns que não prestam, mas têm muitos bons.
Às vezes, ao entrar em um estabelecimento, vemos um quadro com um pensamento. Embaixo, estão os créditos: “provérbio chinês”, “provérbio árabe”, etc. São muitos os tipos de provérbios. Como você é alguém que acredita em Deus e gosta de ler mensagens sobre a Bíblia, quero lançar um desafio. É um desafio para mim também. Vamos ser mais coerentes? Como assim? Minha proposta é usarmos mais a coerência em vez de ficarmos nos chafurdando com provérbios disso, provérbios daquilo, que muitas vezes têm até origens duvidosas e pagãs. É melhor gastarmos tempo nos provérbios bíblicos, já que somos cristãos e nosso livro é a Bíblia.
São tantos ensinos bons em cada um deles... A leitura de hoje, por exemplo, dispensa comentários! Quer ver só? O que você lerá a partir de agora é apenas leitura bíblica, sem comentário nenhum meu. São destaques que irei fazer do texto bíblico, só para deixar você com água na boca:
A sabedoria é mais preciosa do que rubis; nada do que vocês possam desejar compara-se a ela.
Temer o SENHOR é odiar o mal.

O homem que não tem juízo ridiculariza o seu próximo, mas o que tem entendimento refreia a língua. Quem muito fala trai a confidência, mas quem merece confiança guarda o segredo.
Mulher bondosa conquista respeito. Como anel de ouro em focinho de porco, assim é a mulher bonita, mas indiscreta.
