And Joshua son of Nun sendeth from Shittim, two men, spies, silently, saying, `Go, see the land -- and Jericho;` and they go and come into the house of a woman, a harlot, and her name [is] Rahab, and they lie down there.

|Josué 2:2|
And it is told to the king of Jericho, saying, `Lo, men have come in hither to-night, from the sons of Israel, to search the land.

|Josué 2:3|
And the king of Jericho sendeth unto Rahab, saying, `Bring out the men who are coming in unto thee, who have come into thy house, for to search the whole of the land they have come in.

And the woman taketh the two men, and hideth them, and saith thus: `The men came in unto me, and I have not known whence they [are];

|Josué 2:5|
and it cometh to pass -- the gate is to [be] shut -- in the dark, and the men have gone out; I have not known whither the men have gone; pursue ye, hasten after them, for ye overtake them;`

and she hath caused them to go up on the roof, and hideth them with the flax wood, which is arranged for her on the roof.

And the men have pursued after them the way of the Jordan, by the fords, and the gate they have shut afterwards, when the pursuers have gone out after them.

And -- before they lie down -- she hath gone up unto them on the roof,

and she saith unto the men, `I have known that Jehovah hath given to you the land, and that your terror hath fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted at your presence.

`For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the waters of the Red Sea at your presence, in your going out of Egypt, and that which ye have done to the two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan; to Sihon and to Og whom ye devoted.

SEMPRE AO SEU LADO
Josué 18-21
Ao fazer a leitura de hoje, você perceberá que as coisas que aconteciam na vida do povo eram grandes cumprimentos das promessas que já haviam sido feitas. Deus sempre cumpre as promessas? Às vezes, pode até parecer demorado, como uma história que aconteceu na Romênia.
Havia um cidadão romeno, que sempre dizia ao filho:
- Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado.
Naquela época, aconteceu um terremoto muito grande, que arrasou muitas das construções. Aquele cidadão estava na estrada, longe do seu filho. Imagine como deve ter ficado o coração desse pai! Ele foi direto à escola onde o filho estudava. Quando chegou lá, ficou decepcionado. A escola estava totalmente destruída.
Aquele homem foi tomado de uma tristeza tão grande, que na cabeça dele ficavam latejando aquelas palavras: “Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei...”
Ele não podia acreditar. Teorizou isso tantas vezes, mas agora, na hora da morte, ele não pudera cumprir a promessa. Seu coração estava dilacerado.
Ele ficou andando por cima dos entulhos até descobrir a altura do local onde tinha sido a sala de aulas do filho. Desesperado, começou a cavar com as próprias mãos. Com um enorme peso na mente, ficava repetindo aquelas palavras da promessa: “Haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado.”
Outros pais chegaram, até bem intencionados, e tentavam afastá-lo, dizendo:
- Amigo, vai pra casa. Não adianta, não sobrou ninguém.
E ele, decidido, respondia:
- Você vai me ajudar?
Ninguém o ajudava. Pouco a pouco, todas as pessoas iam se afastando. E não adiantava tentar convencer aquele homem. Desesperado, cavando com as mãos, repetia a mesma frase.
A polícia, parentes e até os bombeiros tentaram convencê-lo de parar com aquela loucura, mas não adiantou. Ele continuou por 30 horas.
Aí, depois de trinta horas, quando afastou uma enorme pedra, sempre repetindo aquela frase: “Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado”, então ouviu:
- Papai! Estou aqui!
- Filho, você está bem?
- Estou. Mas tenho sede, fome e estou com medo.
Impressionante! Aquele pai conseguiu, contra tudo e todos, encontrar seu filho ainda vivo, além de mais 14 crianças sobreviventes, as quais até os bombeiros já tinham dado por mortas.
O filho teve toda essa força de sobrevivência devido à promessa: “Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado.”
Deus também sempre cumpre Suas promessas. Creia que o Senhor, o seu pai, é o pai mais amoroso e fiel do mundo. Ele nunca desiste dos Seus filhos. Sua promessa para você é: “Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado.”
Deus é apaixonado por você!
