And all the people are gathered as one man unto the broad place that [is] before the water-gate, and they say to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, that Jehovah commanded Israel.

And Ezra the priest bringeth the law before the assembly, both of men and women, and every one intelligent to hear, on the first day of the seventh month,

and he readeth in it before the broad place that [is] before the water-gate, from the light till the middle of the day, over-against the men, and the women, and those intelligent, and the ears of all the people [are] unto the book of the law.

And Ezra the scribe standeth on a tower of wood that they made for the purpose, and Mattithiah standeth near him, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right; and on his left Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddana, Zechariah, Meshullam.

And Ezra openeth the book before the eyes of all the people -- for above all the people he hath been -- and at his opening [it] all the people have stood up,

and Ezra blesseth Jehovah, the great God, and all the people answer, `Amen, Amen,` with lifting up of their hands, and they bow and do obeisance to Jehovah -- faces to the earth.

And Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, giving the people understanding in the law, and the people, [are] on their station,

and they read in the book, in the law of God, explaining -- so as to give the meaning, and they give understanding to the convocation.

And Nehemiah -- he [is] the Tirshatha -- saith (and Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Levites who are instructing the people) to all the people, `To-day is holy to Jehovah your God, do not mourn, nor weep:` for all the people are weeping at their hearing the words of the law.

And he saith to them, `Go, eat fat things, and drink sweet things, and sent portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for to-day [is] holy to our Lord, and be not grieved, for the joy of Jehovah is your strength.`

COMO TORNAR INTERESSANTE O ESTUDO DA BÍBLIA
Provérbios 01-03
O livro que começaremos a estudar, e que lida com conselhos sábios, é chamado de Provérbios de Salomão. E por falar em conselhos sábios, quero trazer algumas sugestões para o estudo proveitoso da Bíblia. São dicas sábias elaboradas pelo doutor em teologia aplicada, Jobson Dornelles do Santos. Destaquei oito delas, que podem ser muito bem aproveitadas por nós que estamos tentando ficar sempre mais “por dentro da Bíblia”.
Como tornar a leitura da Bíblia interessante?
1. Tome a decisão de reservar um horário diário em que haja silêncio e busque a Cristo através de uma leitura da Bíblia. Certamente, você precisará da ajuda de Deus, no sentido de confirmar e fortalecer tal resolução diante dos imprevistos.
2. Comece com pequenos versos, e até com uma parte que lhe seja agradável e medite naquilo que leu; não precisa ler grandes capítulos, mas que aquilo que for lido possa ter sentido para sua vida. Comece e termine com uma oração, sempre. Aumente a leitura aos poucos e quando menos esperar, esse hábito se tornará como se fosse um alimento espiritual; você não poderá viver mais sem estes momentos. Isto se chama ter comunhão diária com Deus.
3. Procure ter uma versão da Bíblia que apresente uma linguagem moderna, leve e de fácil entendimento. Uma versão de boa qualidade é “Nova Versão Internacional” (preferencialmente) ou “A Bíblia na Linguagem de Hoje”. Podem ser encontradas em qualquer livraria evangélica.
4. Tenha à mão um caderno para registro de ideias, reflexões e comentários pessoais, além de sublinhar algo na própria Bíblia.
5. A Bíblia deve ser lida sem pressa. Nada de correria. Palavras e pensamentos devem ser bem digeridos, com uma atitude mental positiva, e com disposição para ouvir a voz de Deus.
6. A concentração é fundamental. Se for necessário, a passagem deve ser lida mais de uma vez, até que o significado esteja claro e possa ser aceito.
7. Há duas ferramentas que podem ajudar na obtenção de melhor aproveitamento da leitura da Bíblia: um dicionário bíblico e uma concordância bíblica. O dicionário auxilia na compreensão de palavras raras ou desconhecidas como “circuncisão”, “filisteus”... A concordância ajuda como encontrar todos os versos bíblicos que contenham uma determinada palavra.
8. Essa é a dica mais importante. Pedir a ajuda de Deus para entender o que se vai estudar é a primeira coisa que deve ser feita. Através do Espírito Santo, Ele iluminará a mente e guiará o pensamento.
