And all the people are gathered as one man unto the broad place that [is] before the water-gate, and they say to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, that Jehovah commanded Israel.

And Ezra the priest bringeth the law before the assembly, both of men and women, and every one intelligent to hear, on the first day of the seventh month,

and he readeth in it before the broad place that [is] before the water-gate, from the light till the middle of the day, over-against the men, and the women, and those intelligent, and the ears of all the people [are] unto the book of the law.

And Ezra the scribe standeth on a tower of wood that they made for the purpose, and Mattithiah standeth near him, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right; and on his left Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddana, Zechariah, Meshullam.

And Ezra openeth the book before the eyes of all the people -- for above all the people he hath been -- and at his opening [it] all the people have stood up,

and Ezra blesseth Jehovah, the great God, and all the people answer, `Amen, Amen,` with lifting up of their hands, and they bow and do obeisance to Jehovah -- faces to the earth.

And Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, giving the people understanding in the law, and the people, [are] on their station,

and they read in the book, in the law of God, explaining -- so as to give the meaning, and they give understanding to the convocation.

And Nehemiah -- he [is] the Tirshatha -- saith (and Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Levites who are instructing the people) to all the people, `To-day is holy to Jehovah your God, do not mourn, nor weep:` for all the people are weeping at their hearing the words of the law.

And he saith to them, `Go, eat fat things, and drink sweet things, and sent portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for to-day [is] holy to our Lord, and be not grieved, for the joy of Jehovah is your strength.`

MIQUÉIAS, CRISTO, OS CRISTÃOS E VOCÊ
Miquéias 05-07
O livro de Miquéias é um livro profundamente cristocêntrico, tanto ao falar de Cristo quanto ao falar com os seguidores de Cristo. Embora tenha sido escrito antes de Cristo, é um livro profético, que portanto conseguiu enxergar no futuro mesmo estando ainda no passado. Essa sua transcendência ao tempo dá-nos a garantia de sua atualidade, mesmo depois de milhares de anos em que foi escrito, pois, afinal de contas, também foi escrito séculos antes do Cristo e dos cristãos a quem se refere.
Abaixo, vamos estudar dois versículos. Cada um deles, pode destacar-nos uma dessas cristologias do livro de Miquéias, a que olha para Cristo, e a que olha para os seguidores de Cristo.
“Mas tu, Belém-Efrata, embora pequena entre os clãs [ou governantes] de Judá, de ti virá para mim aquele que será o governante sobre Israel. Suas origens [no hebraico, saídas] estão no passado distante, em tempos antigos [traduzindo de forma mais literal: desde os dias da eternidade] (5:2 – NVI). Na versão bíblica Atualizada, de João Ferreira de Almeida, lemos como esta última proposta de tradução: “desde os dias da eternidade”. Aplicando este verso a Jesus (cf. Mateus 2:6), chegamos ao aprendizado de que, apesar de que, em sua fase de encarnação, tenha nascido em Belém, Cristo já existia muito antes do evento do seu próprio nascimento. E de acordo com Isaías 9:6, esta existência remonta-se à própria pré-existência eterna, no passado. Ou seja, Ele, divinamente, sempre existiu. Amém, por isso! Pois para ser o nosso Deus, precisa, no mínimo, ser eterno, não acha?
Essa segurança tem uma influência direta na nossa resposta comportamental. Cristo tem suas virtudes e prerrogativas divinas. Mas e o ser humano que o segue? O capítulo seguinte do livro de Miquéias nos ajuda a entendermos isto. “Ele mostrou a você, ó homem [ser humano], o que é bom e o que o Senhor exige [pede de ti]: pratique a justiça, ame a fidelidade e ande humildemente com o seu Deus (Miquéias 6:8 – NVI). Alguém justo, fiel e que anda humildemente com Deus, é alguém que pode ser chamado de cristão, no melhor sentido da palavra. Quem somos nós para conseguirmos, por nosso próprio esforço, viver plenamente estas virtudes, não é mesmo?
É por isso que contamos com a graça de Deus. “Quem é comparável a ti, ó Deus, que perdoas o pecado e esqueces a transgressão do remanescente da sua herança? Tu que não permaneces irado para sempre, mas que tens prazer em mostrar amor (7:18 – NVI). Miquéias conseguiu enxergar a Deus num futuro muito distante, mas e você, tem vivido na presença do Deus (in)visível?
