And it cometh to pass afterwards, that the king of the Bene-Ammon dieth, and Hanun his son reigneth in his stead,

and David saith, `I do kindness with Hanun son of Nahash, as his father did with me kindness;` and David sendeth to comfort him by the hand of his servants concerning his father, and the servants of David come in to the land of the Bene-Ammon.

And the heads of the Bene-Ammon say unto Hanun their lord, `Is David honouring thy father in thine eyes because he hath sent to thee comforters? for to search the city, and to spy it, and to overthrow it, hath not David sent his servants unto thee?`

And Hanun taketh the servants of David, and shaveth off the half of their beard, and cutteth off their long robes in the midst -- unto their buttocks, and sendeth them away;

and they declare [it] to David, and he sendeth to meet them, for the men have been greatly ashamed, and the king saith, `Abide in Jericho till your beard doth spring up -- then ye have returned.`

and David heareth, and sendeth Joab, and all the host -- the mighty men.

And the Bene-Ammon come out, and set battle in array, at the opening of the gate, and Aram of Zoba, and Rehob, and Ish-Tob, and Maacah, [are] by themselves in the field;

and Joab seeth that the front of the battle hath been unto him before and behind, and he chooseth of all the chosen in Israel, and setteth in array to meet Aram,

O MELHOR DE DEUS AINDA ESTÁ POR VIR
Romanos 11-13
Deus tem lhe abençoado? Você acredita que Ele pode dar-lhe uma benção especial a partir de Romanos 11-13? A leitura bíblica de hoje começa assim:
“Pergunto, pois: Acaso Deus rejeitou o seu povo? De maneira nenhuma! Eu mesmo sou israelita, descendente de Abraão, da tribo de Benjamim. Deus não rejeitou o seu povo, o qual de antemão conheceu. Ou vocês não sabem como Elias clamou a Deus contra Israel, conforme diz a Escritura? “Senhor, mataram os teus profetas e derrubaram os teus altares; sou o único que sobrou, e agora estão procurando matar-me.” E qual foi a resposta divina? “Reservei para mim sete mil homens que não dobraram os joelhos diante de Baal.” Assim, hoje também há um remanescente escolhido pela graça. E, se é pela graça, já não é mais pelas obras; se fosse, a graça já não seria graça.”
Mais adiante, apenas pulando para o próximo capítulo, lemos:
“Portanto, irmãos, rogo-lhes pelas misericórdias de Deus que se ofereçam em sacrifício vivo, santo e agradável a Deus; este é o culto racional de vocês. Não se amoldem ao padrão deste mundo, mas transformem-se pela renovação da sua mente, para que sejam capazes de experimentar e comprovar a boa, agradável e perfeita vontade de Deus.”
E no capítulo seguinte, chegamos à conclusão do trecho bíblico proposto para este dia:
“Não devam nada a ninguém, a não ser o amor de uns pelos outros, pois aquele que ama seu próximo tem cumprido a Lei. Pois estes mandamentos: “Não adulterarás”, “Não matarás”, “Não furtarás”, “Não cobiçarás”, e qualquer outro mandamento, todos se resumem neste preceito: “Ame seu próximo como a si mesmo”. O amor não pratica o mal contra o próximo. Portanto, o amor é o cumprimento da Lei. Façam isso, compreendendo o tempo em que vivemos. Chegou a hora de vocês despertarem do sono, porque agora a nossa salvação está mais próxima do que quando cremos. A noite está quase acabando; o dia logo vem. Portanto, deixemos de lado as obras das trevas e revistamo-nos da armadura da luz. Comportemo-nos com decência, como quem age à luz do dia, não em orgias e bebedeiras, não em imoralidade sexual e depravação, não em desavença e inveja. Ao contrário, revistam-se do Senhor Jesus Cristo, e não fiquem premeditando como satisfazer os desejos da natureza pecaminosa”.
