And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeketh the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah saith, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.`

And the king calleth for the Gibeonites, and saith unto them -- as to the Gibeonites, they [are] not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeketh to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah --

yea, David saith unto the Gibeonites, `What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless ye the inheritance of Jehovah.`

And the Gibeonites say to him, `We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;` and he saith, `What ye are saying I do to you.`

and the king hath pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Jehovah that [is] between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;

and the king taketh the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite,

and giveth them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Jehovah; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first [days], the commencement of barley-harvest.

And Rizpah daughter of Aiah taketh the sackcloth, and stretcheth it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water hath been poured out upon them from the heavens, and hath not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night.

O MELHOR DE DEUS AINDA ESTÁ POR VIR
Romanos 11-13
Deus tem lhe abençoado? Você acredita que Ele pode dar-lhe uma benção especial a partir de Romanos 11-13? A leitura bíblica de hoje começa assim:
“Pergunto, pois: Acaso Deus rejeitou o seu povo? De maneira nenhuma! Eu mesmo sou israelita, descendente de Abraão, da tribo de Benjamim. Deus não rejeitou o seu povo, o qual de antemão conheceu. Ou vocês não sabem como Elias clamou a Deus contra Israel, conforme diz a Escritura? “Senhor, mataram os teus profetas e derrubaram os teus altares; sou o único que sobrou, e agora estão procurando matar-me.” E qual foi a resposta divina? “Reservei para mim sete mil homens que não dobraram os joelhos diante de Baal.” Assim, hoje também há um remanescente escolhido pela graça. E, se é pela graça, já não é mais pelas obras; se fosse, a graça já não seria graça.”
Mais adiante, apenas pulando para o próximo capítulo, lemos:
“Portanto, irmãos, rogo-lhes pelas misericórdias de Deus que se ofereçam em sacrifício vivo, santo e agradável a Deus; este é o culto racional de vocês. Não se amoldem ao padrão deste mundo, mas transformem-se pela renovação da sua mente, para que sejam capazes de experimentar e comprovar a boa, agradável e perfeita vontade de Deus.”
E no capítulo seguinte, chegamos à conclusão do trecho bíblico proposto para este dia:
“Não devam nada a ninguém, a não ser o amor de uns pelos outros, pois aquele que ama seu próximo tem cumprido a Lei. Pois estes mandamentos: “Não adulterarás”, “Não matarás”, “Não furtarás”, “Não cobiçarás”, e qualquer outro mandamento, todos se resumem neste preceito: “Ame seu próximo como a si mesmo”. O amor não pratica o mal contra o próximo. Portanto, o amor é o cumprimento da Lei. Façam isso, compreendendo o tempo em que vivemos. Chegou a hora de vocês despertarem do sono, porque agora a nossa salvação está mais próxima do que quando cremos. A noite está quase acabando; o dia logo vem. Portanto, deixemos de lado as obras das trevas e revistamo-nos da armadura da luz. Comportemo-nos com decência, como quem age à luz do dia, não em orgias e bebedeiras, não em imoralidade sexual e depravação, não em desavença e inveja. Ao contrário, revistam-se do Senhor Jesus Cristo, e não fiquem premeditando como satisfazer os desejos da natureza pecaminosa”.
