Then these men were bound in their hosen, their tunics, and their mantles, and their [other] garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.

And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste: he spake and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the aspect of the fourth is like a son of the gods.

Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace: he spake and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants of the Most High God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego came forth out of the midst of the fire.

And the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, that the fire had no power upon their bodies, nor was the hair of their head singed, neither were their hosen changed, nor had the smell of fire passed on them.

Nebuchadnezzar spake and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speak anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill; because there is no other god that is able to deliver after this sort.

Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego in the province of Babylon.

SUAS LIÇÕES
SALMOS 78-80
De todos os hinos nacionais de Israel, o Salmo 78 é o mais extenso. Nele, é repassada a história do povo de Israel, desde o Egito até o estabelecimento do reino no tempo de Davi. Então, ao escrevê-lo, o salmista recordou o passado, com as repetidas conquistas, rebeliões e os merecidos sofrimento e castigo que, infelizmente tinham acontecido, com a finalidade de dar uma admoestação ao povo para que fossem fiéis a Deus, tanto na época quanto no futuro.
Portanto, em essência, é um salmo didático. Ele tem o objetivo de ensinar a viver uma vida justa. É por isso que ele não traz a cronologia histórica, com muita preocupação de ser exato em todas as datas, sequência e detalhes. O autor apenas coloca os assuntos históricos como melhor convém ao seu propósito: mostrar a bondade de Deus, apesar do fato do povo de Israel ser tão rebelde.
Já o Salmo 79 é um poema dedicado à desolação de Jerusalém, devido ao cativeiro babilônico, como já pudemos ver, também, no Salmo 74. Na realidade, o Salmo 79 começa com uma descrição gráfica de Jerusalém em ruÃnas, com seus habitantes mortos à espada. AÃ, em seguida, vem uma súplica por liberdade e para que os invasores recebam o que merecem. No fim desse salmo, encontramos um cântico de louvor e uma aliança eterna de gratidão. Um fato curioso é que, por causa da fluidez de pensamento dele, era o salmo preferido tanto dos huguenotes franceses quanto dos puritanos ingleses.
O último salmo da nossa leitura de hoje é o 80. Ele foi composto em um tempo de angústia, uma crise nacional muito grande. Então, é obvio que existe um rogatório para que Deus renove a misericórdia dEle para com Seu povo. Embora sendo um salmo simples, ao mesmo tempo é muito bonito. Nele, o salmista compara o reino de Israel com um videira que havia sido plantada no Egito, foi muito bem cuidada no passado, mas que agora estava correndo o risco de ser extinta. Isso também pode acontecer conosco, se deixarmos Deus de lado e quisermos nos meter a ser donos do próprio nariz. Corremos o risco de não nos comportarmos como criaturas e não deixarmos Deus agir como Criador.
