The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, after Nebuzaradan, the captain of the armed men, had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him; for he had been put in chains, among all the prisoners of Jerusalem and Judah who were taken away prisoners to Babylon.

And the captain of the armed men took Jeremiah and said to him, The Lord your God gave word of the evil which was to come on this place:

*** and the Lord has made it come, and has done as he said; because of your sin against the Lord in not giving ear to his voice; and that is why this thing has come on you.

Now see, this day I am freeing you from the chains which are on your hands. If it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, then come, and I will keep an eye on you; but if it does not seem good to you to come with me to Babylon, then do not come: see, all the land is before you; if it seems good and right to you to go on living in the land,

Then go back to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made ruler over the towns of Judah, and make your living-place with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go. So the captain of the armed men gave him food and some money and let him go.

So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, in Mizpah, and was living with him among the people who were still in the land.

Now when it came to the ears of all the captains of the forces who were in the field, and their men, that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, ruler in the land, and had put under his care the men and women and children, all the poorest of the land, those who had not been taken away to Babylon;

Then they came to Gedaliah in Mizpah, even Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan, the son of Kareah, and Seraiah, the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah, the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.

And Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, took an oath to them and their men, saying, Have no fear of the servants of the Chaldaeans: go on living in the land, and become the servants of the king of Babylon, and all will be well.

As for me, I will be living in Mizpah as your representative before the Chaldaeans who come to us: but you are to get in your wine and summer fruits and oil and put them in your vessels, and make living-places for yourselves in the towns which you have taken.

SERIA ERRADO BATER PALMAS NA IGREJA?
SALMOS 46-50
As pessoas que perguntam isso não devem conhecer um verso da na leitura de hoje: “Batam palmas, vocês, todos os povos; aclamem a Deus com cantos de alegria” (Salmo 47:1).
No serviço de louvor, existem aquelas palmas que acompanham o ritmo da música. Nas Escrituras, até os elementos da Natureza são chamados a bater palmas (Isaías 55:12; Salmo 98:8 e 9). Com equilíbrio, é obvio que o louvor acompanhado das palmas alcança melhor seu objetivo de envolver a todos. É só não deixar que o ritmo seja mais enfatizado que a letra e a mensagem da música.
Os aplausos de um público para uma pessoa também são bíblicos (2Reis 11:12). Ao usar as palmas, porém, é preciso evitar o desequilíbrio do exagero, da falta de etiqueta, na descompostura e exaltação do ser humano acima de Deus. Um público cristão deve bater palmas para um cantor, um pastor ou qualquer outro ministro, simplesmente “dizendo” com suas palmas: “Louvado seja Deus, irmão, pelo seu talento!” Esse aplauso seria um tipo de um “grande ‘amém’”. O que não pode acontecer é o uso das palmas para idolatrar o aplaudido. O povo precisa ser educado quanto a isso, pois o diálogo é sempre melhor que a inibição.
Alguém poderia alegar: a) que existem poucas passagens que falem sobre o “bater palmas”; b) que provoca desordem no culto; e c) exaltação do ser humano acima de Deus.
Quanto ao primeiro item, os críticos precisam levar em consideração que, embora haja poucas passagens que falem sobre bater palmas, não existe uma passagem bíblica sequer que condene essa prática. Isso deixa a crítica em pior situação que a prática. Quanto aos dois últimos argumentos, podemos claramente perceber que eles se referem muito mais ao desequilíbrio que a uma prática equilibrada e sadia. Portanto, embora devamos respeitar a esses críticos como pessoas, devemos dialogar e crescer no entendimento de um louvor mais amplo.
A recomendação bíblica de Salmo 47:1 não é um mandamento obrigatório. Bater palmas na igreja é uma questão cultural. Ela deve usar as melhores formas de expressão existentes em sua cultura que levem a maioria a adorar. Se a maior parte dos membros louva, adora, reconhece e interage melhor com as palmas, que as palmas sejam usadas com equilíbrio, para a honra e glória de Deus. Em muitos lugares do mundo, nossa igreja tem esse costume. Mas, por outro lado, se a maioria das pessoas ainda não consegue se sentir bem com a presença das palmas no serviço de adoração, não compensa usar um elemento que não edificará os crentes (1Coríntios 10:31).
