all the people gathered together as one man to the open place that was before the water-gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Jehovah had commanded Israel.

And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation, both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.

And he read in it before the open place that was before the water-gate from the morning until midday, in presence of the men and the women, and those that could understand. And the ears of all the people were [attentive] to the book of the law.

And Ezra the scribe stood upon a high stage of wood, which they had made for the purpose. And beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkijah, and Maaseiah on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddana, Zechariah, Meshullam.

And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.

And Ezra blessed Jehovah, the great God; and all the people answered, Amen, Amen! with lifting up of their hands; and they bowed their heads, and worshipped Jehovah with their faces to the ground.

And Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law; and the people [stood] in their place.

And they read in the law of God distinctly out of the book, and gave the sense, and caused [them] to understand the reading.

And Nehemiah, that is, the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that explained to the people, said to all the people, This day is holy to Jehovah your God: mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law.

And he said to them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions to them for whom nothing is prepared; for the day is holy to our Lord; and be not grieved, for the joy of Jehovah is your strength.

INTRODUÇÃO AO LIVRO DO APOCALIPSE
Apocalipse 01-03
João introduz este livro como sendo uma “revelação de Jesus Cristo” como objetivo de “mostrar aos seus servos as coisas que em breve devem acontecer” (v. 1). Ao estudarmos este livro devemos ter a mente aberta para “enxergar” Jesus, o qual se “revela” como aquele que está no controle da grande controvérsia entre o bem e o mal; e não somente isto, mas também é o Redentor da humanidade, e Aquele que restaurará este planeta ao seu estado original, entregando-o para ser a morada permanente de todos quantos O aceitam como seu Salvador.
Apocalipse 3:1 pronuncia uma tríplice bênção: 1) “Feliz aquele quê lê.” Provavelmente é uma alusão à pessoa que fazia a leitura pública das Escrituras ou de uma Epístola (Col. 4:16;2 Tess.5:27); esta prática, aparentemente, era um reflexo do costume entre os judeus de ler “a lei e os profetas cada sábado” na sinagoga (Luc. 4:16,17; Atos 13:15,27. 15:21); 2) “aqueles que ouvem”. Naturalmente, os ouvintes seriam grandemente beneficiados com a mensagem de Apocalipse; 3) “E guardam o que nela está escrito”. Esta parece ser a maior bênção. Em Grego, a forma verbal dá idéia de “continuação”, guardar habitualmente, observar e obedecer as admoestações deste livro (comp. Mat. 7:21-24). Os versos 4-5 apresentam uma saudação inicial procedente da Santíssima Trindade. É como se dissessem: “Nós três vos oferecemos graça e paz”.
Mas o personagem central do Apocalipse é Jesus. Logo no incício do livro encontramos sete expressões para descrever a pessoa de Cristo:
1) Fiel testemunha;
2) Primogênito dos mortos;
3) Soberano dos reis da terra;
4) Aquele que nos ama;
5) Pelo seu sangue nos libertou dos nossos pecados;
6) Nos constituiu reino;
7) Sacerdotes para o seu Deus e Pai.
A interação de Jesus com o nosso planeta também é muito destacada no livro do Apocalipse. No primeiro capítulo, os versos 4-6 focalizam a primeira vinda de Jesus, enquanto o v. 7 descreve a Sua volta, na qual Ele buscará todos aqueles que escolheram negar este mundo e sofrer o que fosse, por amor do Seu nome.
Apocalipse 1:9 indica que, além de João, havia outros que também estavam sendo perseguidos “por causa da palavra de Deus”. João foi preso e exilado na ilha rochosa chamada Patmos, no mar Egeu, a uns 90 quilômetros da cidade de Éfeso. Mas mesmo assim, procurou encorajar seus irmãos sofredores, pois é através de “muitas tribulações” que nos “importa entrar no reino de Deus” (Mat. 4:17; Atos 14:22). E também. É através da “perseverança” e “paciência” que os crentes em Jesus herdarão o seu reino (Rom. 2:7; Apoc. 14:12).
