And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.

And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Bethel.

And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.

And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the grove.

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba, and brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

UM POUCO DE OSÉIAS
Oséias 10-14
Tudo bem com você? Que bom! Porque quero falar sobre alguém que, pra ele, nem sempre, as coisas foram tão bem: Oséias. E aqui, incluo também todo o Israel Antigo, que, de dar tantas cabeçadas, muito sofreu. Contemple a deplorável situação de Gomer, descrita em Oséias, e você terá um retrato ilustrativo da condição dos demais israelitas.
Mas a vida de Oséias também teve os seus lados bons. Seu nome já é um privilégio. Significa “Javé Salva”. Contemporâneo e conterrâneo do rei Oséias, este profeta nasceu no reino do norte – Israel – durante o reinado anterior, de Jeroboão II (786 – 735 a.C.). Esses xarás devem ter ouvido falar um do outro, mas provavelmente não trabalharam juntos, porque o profeta Oséias foi paro sul – reino de Judá – para exercer seu ministério profético, durante os reinados de Uzias (783 – 743 a.C.), Jotão (742 – 735 a.C.), Acaz (735 – 715 a.C.) e Ezequias (715 – 686 a.C.).
Mas o mais interessante sobre Oséias não foi com que reis ele trabalhou. O mais interessante foi com que mulher ele se casou, e a que Deus ele serviu. Uma coisa, tendo, totalmente, a ver com a outra. Porque o próprio matrimônio de Oséias com a mulher chamada Gômer, que foi totalmente infiel a ele, constitui para nós um alto testemunho da fidelidade que ele tinha para com Deus.
Então, o livro de Oseias é um episódio que joga com as realidades da fidelidade e da infidelidade. Oséias, um dos camaradas mais fiéis que nós podemos conhecer na Bíblia, convivendo com Gomer, uma das pessoas mais infiéis de todos os tempos. Ambos perpetuando num drama onde podemos ver, claramente, a prosperidade na fidelidade e a desgraça na infidelidade.
Certa vez, alguém disse: “ou você tem caráter, ou não tem”. Errado. Em nosso relacionamento com Deus, cada um de nós tem em si um pouco de Gomer. É a nossa tendência pecaminosa, que nos tenta à infidelidade. Somos tentados a ter mau caráter. Não existem pessoas sem caráter. Todos têm caráter. Mas existem as diferenças de caráter, variando de totalmente bom a totalmente ruim. E nisto está a maravilhosa notícia da graça. Você pode entregar o seu caráter nas mãos de Deus e deixar que Ele o transforme. Ao fazer sua leitura, fixe-se na pessoa de Oséias. Precisamos ter, na nossa vida, as características da fidelidade de Oséias. Deus pode refinar-nos cada vez mais, até chegarmos ao ponto de ter um caráter tão bom, à prova das mais terríveis atribulações.
E, se por um acaso, você ainda cair, lembre-se: “a graça de Deus pode lhe redimir”. Entregue-se a Ele. Este foi o segredo de Oséias.
