The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,

That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.

We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.

Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:

But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.

Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.

Atos 07-09
O destaque da leitura de hoje vai ficar com Estevão, um personagem bíblico de marco histórico. Digo “de marco histórico”, porque a morte de Estevão é um dos pontos de identificação das datas que estruturam a cronologia da profecia dos 2300 tardes e manhãs, de Daniel 8:14. Se quiser estudar mais sobre isto, veja o livro Nisto Cremos, da Casa Publicadora Brasileira.
Mas além de ter sido uma referência na História, Estevão foi uma grande personalidade do cristianismo, que merece sim, um pouco da nossa atenção. De acordo com o que podemos ver em Atos 6:5; 7:59; 8:2; 11:19; e 22:20; ele foi um dos sete diáconos da igreja primitiva. Há teólogos que lhe dão o título de “Um Negociante Cheio do Espírito”. Eleito para supervisionar a distribuição da ajuda (Atos 6:5), Estevão ultrapassou as limitações de sua tarefa e chegou a ser um pregador poderoso (Atos 7).
Dentre as importantes qualidades de Estevão, podemos destacar que ele foi um homem cheio de algumas virtudes como: a) Fé (Atos 6:5); b) Presença do Espírito Santo (Atos 6:5); c) Sabedoria (Atos 6:3-10); d) Poder (Atos 6:8); e) Luz (Atos 6:15); f)Visão (Atos 7:55-56); e, do maior de todos os dons, g) Amor (Atos 7:60).
Os cristãos lembram-se muito de Estevão por Ele ter sido um mártir da fé cristã(Atos 7:56). O primeiro, após a ascensão do Senhor Jesus Cristo. Remonta-se a isto o fato de que (acreditamos nisso pela tradição) Estevão seja, com quase certeza, um dos setenta escolhidos e enviados pelo Senhor em Lucas 10:1-10, e que O acompanhou sempre, a partir do batismo de João (Atos 1:21-22). Podemos concluir isso, devido ao fato de ele exercer dons atribuídos exclusivamente aos apóstolos e estes homens (Atos 6:8). Logo, por causa da atividade cristã de Estevão havia homens que se colocavam contra ele. Não conseguiam derrotá-lo em nenhum tipo de discussão, pois estava cheio do Espírito Santo e da sabedoria espiritual. Então, contrataram homens perversos e desonestos para dizer mentiras sobre ele, levaram-no perante o conselho e o acusaram de blasfêmia contra Deus e contra Moisés. Por fim, seu ministério póstumo foi maior do que sua contribuição em vida.
Já passou para pensar nisto? Você não tem como imaginar a mensuração do tamanho que a cauda da sua influência pode atingir. Crescimento absurdo, porém relevante!
