Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.

They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

Imagine uma pirâmide, cheia de degraus, cujo topo você tem que alcançar. Na base, está a fé. O segundo degrau é uma composição de virtude. Este degrau, serve de apoio para uma camada de conhecimento. Quando você escala o conhecimento, chega a uma plataforma de domínio próprio. O próximo andar é constituído de perseverança. Acima da perseverança, é possível encontrar piedade. E em seguida, o piso é todo fraternidade. Mas não pare de subir, porque o topo está perto. E quando você chega ao mesmo, percebe que é um terraço de amor.
Acha utópico? Então leia este trecho da leitura bíblica de hoje:
“Por isso mesmo, empenhem-se para acrescentar à sua fé a virtude; à virtude o conhecimento; ao conhecimento o domínio próprio; ao domínio próprio a perseverança; à perseverança a piedade; à piedade a fraternidade; e à fraternidade o amor (2Pedro 1:5-7)”.
Que sentido faz? A sequência do texto explica:
“Porque, se essas qualidades existirem e estiverem crescendo em sua vida, elas impedirão que vocês, no pleno conhecimento de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, sejam inoperantes e improdutivos (verso 8).
Ainda não foi possível entender? Esclarecendo:
O assunto é “salvação”. Depois da Justificação Pela Fé, no processo de santificação, o amor está no topo das nobres virtudes a serem alcançadas. E qual é o resultado disso? João 14:21: “Quem tem os meus mandamentos e lhes obedece, esse é o que me ama. Aquele que me ama será amado por meu Pai, e eu também o amarei e me revelarei a ele”.
Assim como Paulo, a partir de 12, vai explicando sobre os dons (virtudes) e classificando-os, até culminar naquele que ele julga mais nobre, no capítulo 13: o amor, aqui Pedro também tem a sua pirâmide. Assim como Cristo resume toda todo o antigo testamento em uma palavra, “amor”, Pedro também coloca este talento divino como o hit da vida cristã. Pra bombar, só com o amor.
A pirâmide é a vida plena no plano original de Deus. Escalar a pirâmide é o tornar-se participante da natureza divina. Por isto lemos: “Seu divino poder nos deu tudo de que necessitamos para a vida e para a piedade, por meio do pleno conhecimento daquele que nos chamou para a sua própria glória e virtude. Dessa maneira, ele nos deu as suas grandiosas e preciosas promessas, para que por elas vocês se tornassem participantes da natureza divina e fugissem da corrupção que há no mundo, causada pela cobiça (2Pedro 1:3-4)”.
É para isto que Deus chamou você. E nisto consiste a certeza da sua vocação e da sua eleição. Com isto definido em mente, você pode fazer a leitura de hoje.
