The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him -- and he a prisoner in chains -- in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

And the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, `Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,

and Jehovah bringeth [it] in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.

`And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that [are] on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land [is] before thee, whither [it be] good, and whither [it be] right in thine eyes to go -- go.` --

and while he doth not reply -- `Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go -- go.` And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,

and Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.

And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;

and they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.

And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, `Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

and I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.`

QUEM É IVAD?
2Samuel 11-12
Ivad era, além de diretor musical, o líder máximo da minha igreja. Ele trabalhava integralmente para a Obra do Senhor e era o responsável por todos os missionários. Como ungido, todos os fiéis o tinham como indicado por Deus. Tinha um registro de trabalho impecável. Sua integridade conquistara a confiança e lealdade de todos.
Mas Ivad, em vez de confiar no poder de Jeová, começou a confiar em sua própria sabedoria e poder. Certo dia, Ivad dormiu até tarde. Ocioso, levantou-se e, de seu terraço, ficou contemplando o lindo corpo de uma mulher em uma piscina, próxima dali, alimentando os maus desejos de seu coração. Procurou informação sobre a mulher e descobriu o pior: era esposa de um amigo seu, o missionário Sairu. Mas Ivad não conseguia tirar Abes da mente. Procurou cortejá-la, conseguiu o que queria e dormiram juntos. Sabia que cometera um grande pecado, mas e daí? Ninguém precisava saber!
Mas, daquele encontro, Abes ficou grávida e seu esposo estava, por muitos dias, viajando. Como Ivad era superior de Sairu, ele planejou um escape. Mudou a escala de seu subalterno de maneira que ele viesse dormir em casa. O problema estaria resolvido. Sairu insistiu muito em ser mais fiel às necessidades do trabalho que a regalia que seu chefe lhe oferecia e não foi dormir com a esposa. Ivad não sabia o que fazer e planejou o pior: a morte “acidental” de Sairu, de uma maneira que ninguém saísse culpado. Deu certo! Sairu morreu, Ivad casou com a viúva e dali por diante era só receber aplausos.
Mas em seu coração não tinha paz. Sabia que havia transgredido, pelo menos, oito mandamentos. Para piorar a situação, o capelão conselheiro da missão havia descoberto tudo e censurou o chefão duramente. Seu crime apareceu em toda a sua enormidade. Ivad cometera graves pecados traindo Abes, Sairu, sua igreja e, principalmente, a Deus. Sentiu-se humilhado aos olhos de seus membros. Sua influência se enfraqueceu. Até ali sua prosperidade fora atribuída à sua conscienciosa obediência aos mandamentos. Mas agora, se seus irmãos ficassem sabendo de seus pecados... Ivad estava numa profunda depressão, se sentia “na fossa” e realmente não sabia o que fazer.
Mas, graciosamente o Espírito Santo usou as palavras do pastor Atan para convencer a Ivad do pecado, da justiça e do juízo (João 16: 7 e 8). Ele se sentia a pior das criaturas, mas sabia que Deus não viera chamar justos, e sim pecadores, ao ARREPENDIMENTO (Lucas 5:32). Portanto, ele próprio precisava arrepender-se para serem cancelados os seus pecados (Atos 3:19) e para ter paz (Isaías 30:15); (leia os nomes dos personagens ao contrário).
