The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him -- and he a prisoner in chains -- in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

And the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, `Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,

and Jehovah bringeth [it] in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.

`And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that [are] on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land [is] before thee, whither [it be] good, and whither [it be] right in thine eyes to go -- go.` --

and while he doth not reply -- `Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go -- go.` And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,

and Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.

And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;

and they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.

And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, `Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

and I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.`

Hoje, quero comentar um pouco mais sobre Josafá. Destaco o comentário do livro Nisto Cremos, págs. 291-307:
Josafá, o brei de Judá, achava-se em aflição. Tropas inimigas aproximavam-se, e o panorama parecia não oferecer esperança. O rei “se pôs a buscar ao Senhor, e apregoou jejum em todo o Judá” (2Crônicas 20:3). As pessoas afluíam ao templo em grande número a fim de suplicar a Deus misericórdia e livramento. Enquanto Josafá dirigia os serviços de oração, suplicou a Deus que modificasse as circunstâncias. Ele orou: “Porventura, não és Tu Deus nos Céus? Não és Tu que dominas sobre todos os reinos dos povos? Na Tua mão, está a força e o poder, e não há quem Te possa resistir” (verso 6). Deus não protegeu de modo especial o Seu povo no passado? Não havia Ele concedido o território a Seu povo escolhido? Portanto, Josafá implorou: “Ah! Nosso Deus, acaso não executarás Tu o Teu julgamento contra eles? Porque em nós não há força ... não sabemos o que fazer; porém os nossos olhos estão postos em Ti” (verso 12).
Enquanto todo o Judá se encontrava em pé diante do Senhor, ergueu-se Jaaziel. Sua mensagem trouxe encorajamento e orientação para o povo amedrontado. Ele disse: “Não temais, nem vos assusteis... pois a peleja não é vossa, mas de Deus. ... Neste encontro não tereis de pelejar; tomai posição, ficai parados e vede o salvamento que o Senhor vos dará, ... porque o Senhor é convosco” (versos 15-17). Pela manhã, o rei insistiu diante de suas tropas: “Crede no Senhor, vosso Deus, e estareis seguros; crede nos Seus profetas e prosperareis” (verso 20).
O rei creu tão plenamente naquele profeta praticamente desconhecido – Jaaziel – que substituiu a sua linha de frente, colocando em seu lugar um coral que deveria louvar o Senhor e a beleza de Sua santidade! Enquanto as antífonas de fé enchiam os ares, o Senhor achava-Se em operação, trazendo a confusão entre os inimigos que se haviam aliado contra Josafá. O morticínio foi tão grande que não restou “nenhum sobrevivente” (verso 24).
Jaaziel foi o porta-voz de Deus para aquele momento especial. Os profetas desempenharam papel vital, tanto nos tempos do Antigo quanto do Novo Testamentos. Contudo, teria a profecia cessado com o encerramento do cânon bíblico?
O livro de Apocalipse profetiza que o “testemunho de Jesus” haveria de manifestar-se através do “espírito de profecia” nos últimos dias da história terrestre. Isso representa um desafio a todos, no sentido de não assumir uma atitude de indiferença ou descrença, mas “provar todas as coisas” e “reter o que é bom”. Comece a fazer isso na leitura de hoje.
