The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him -- and he a prisoner in chains -- in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

And the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, `Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,

and Jehovah bringeth [it] in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.

`And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that [are] on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land [is] before thee, whither [it be] good, and whither [it be] right in thine eyes to go -- go.` --

and while he doth not reply -- `Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go -- go.` And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,

and Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.

And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;

and they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.

And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, `Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

and I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.`

TESSALÔNICA E OS TESSALONICENSES
1Tessalonicenses
A segunda maior cidade da Grécia, com quase um milhão de habitantes, é Salônica, que, na Bíblia, é chamada de Tessalônica. De acordo com os historiadores, essa cidade, que hoje é moderna, tem uma história bem antiga. Tudo começou com Felipe II, rei da Macedônia. Ele foi um grande guerreiro, que logrou conquistas muito históricas. Uma delas, foi quando ele venceu os tessálios. E nesse dia que Felipe II venceu os tessálios, estava nascendo um filha dele. Ele aproveitou e colocou o nome na menina de Tessalônica. Uma palavra grega que significa: “vitória sobre os tessálios”.
O tempo se passou e, anos depois, a jovem Tessalônica se casou com um camarada chamado Cassandro, general militar que governou parte da Grécia. Em 316 a.C., Cassandro fundou uma cidade. E que nome deu a esta nova fundação? Exato! Ele homenageou sua esposa: Tessalônica.
Quando o apóstolo Paulo realizou sua segunda viagem missionária, pregou na sua sinagoga tessalonicense e ali, lançou as bases de uma das mais marcantes igrejas da época.
Mas nem só de alegrias missionárias viveu Paulo por ali. Em Tessalônica, o grande apóstolo também sofreu perseguição. A animosidade contra Paulo, por parte dos judeus da cidade, levou-o a fugir para Beréia. Lembra-se que este apóstolo elogiou os bereanos mais que os tessalonicenses? Veja Atos 17:11.
Mas, apesar disso, na Bíblia não temos uma epístola de Paulo aos bereanos. Nenhuma! Temos sim, duas, aos tessalonicenses! Que graça! O teólogo da graça, não somente a recebia e ensinava, mas sabia concedê-la. Depois de ter sido perseguido pelos tessalonicenses, por amor aos tessalonicenses, posteriormente, escreveu a Primeira Epístola aos Tessalonicenses e a Segunda Epístola aos Tessalonicenses.
Tessalônica não ficou esquecida no tempo. Não foi levada às ruínas. Atualmente é uma cidade universitária, base da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte, e um importante centro industrial, com refinarias de petróleo, fábricas de maquinaria, têxteis e tabaco. Nessa cidade, você pode conhecer a Torre Branca que é um marco simbólico bem visitado pelos turistas. Bem como outros monumentos notáveis como o Arco de Galério, a igreja de São Demétrio e os extensos muros da cidade. Muitos preferem as bonitas praças tessalonicenses, com muitos bares, como a Praça Aristóteles, a Praça Santa Sofia, a Praça Nea Panagia e a Praça Navarínu.
E assim como a cidade, permanece em pé a mensagem que Paulo escreveu aos cidadãos, não somente daquela capital da Macedônia Central, mas a todos os candidatos à capital celestial. Você e eu podemos não conhecer a cidade grega, mas podemos nos incluir aos tessalonicenses, melhor ainda, aos cristãos, ao assimilarmos o recado paulino da leitura bíblica. Não deixe de ler.
