The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him -- and he a prisoner in chains -- in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

And the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, `Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,

and Jehovah bringeth [it] in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.

`And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that [are] on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land [is] before thee, whither [it be] good, and whither [it be] right in thine eyes to go -- go.` --

and while he doth not reply -- `Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go -- go.` And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,

and Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.

And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;

and they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.

And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, `Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

and I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.`

CONVENIENTEMENTE INCORRETO
Juízes 17-19
Existe uma lenda que ilustra muito bem o contexto e a “moral da história” da leitura de hoje.
Conta-se que, certa vez, havia um homem que queria muito comprar uma determinada mansão. Então, o Diabo, aproveitando-se da sua obsessão, propôs-se a ajudá-lo:
- Mas há uma única condição - disse-lhe o demônio.
- Qual condição? - perguntou o homem, desconfiado.
- Está vendo aquele prego fincado na parede da sala de jantar?
- Sim!
- Eu ajudo você a comprar esta mansão. Ela verdadeiramente será sua, mas aquele prego será meu. Você nunca poderá arrancá-lo de lá.
- Só isso?
- Só isso - confirmou o Diabo.
O homem aceitou a proposta. Anos depois, ele ofereceu um gigantesco banquete na sua mansão. As pessoas mais importantes de toda aquela região foram convidadas e confirmaram presença.
Aquele seria um jantar inesquecível, mas, no meio da festa, quando as pessoas iam começar a comer, o Diabo entrou na sala carregando uma carniça fedorenta e a pendurou naquele prego, assustando e acabando com o apetite de todos.
O dono da mansão tentou argumentar, mas o Diabo lhe disse:
- Lembre-se do nosso trato: aquele prego é meu! E eu vou usá-lo como bem entender.
E é assim que acontece se deixarmos o mal dominar qualquer área da nossa vida. Por menor que seja, ele infernizará toda a nossa existência. Se você acha que isso não é bíblico, leia Juízes 17-19. Mica deu uma pequena abertura para o mal, fazendo algo que lhe era mais conveniente do que certo. A história corre e desemboca-se na desgraça do que aconteceu a todo o Israel, em decorrência do ocorrido com o levita e a sua concubina. Esse desgraçante desfecho está na leitura de amanhã, que é o capítulo vinte. Mas amanhã também continuaremos questionando sobre a tênue linha que existe entre o conveniente e o correto.
Por hoje, fica para você a reflexão: o que lhe tem sido gostoso, conveniente, “bom”, aprazível, afetivo, etc., que tem sido um verdadeiro prego no sapato da sua vida cristã? Você acha que compensa continuar agarrado a isso? Lembre-se que é muito melhor o pouco e o simples com Deus que o muito sem ele. Afinal, o primeiro estado traz felicidade, mas este último gera consequências muito dolorosas. O que a princípio é conveniente, se não for regido pelos corretos princípios, amanhã será, principalmente, inconveniente.
É como aquele ditado que diz que “quem ri por último ri melhor”. É melhor você abrir mão do pecado hoje, por mais atrativo que lhe pareça, que Deus abrir mão de você amanhã, por mais que tenha lhe amado.
Pense nisso!
