And it cometh to pass, in the seventh month, come hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and of the chiefs of the king, and ten men with him, unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and they eat there bread together in Mizpah.

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah riseth, and the ten men who have been with him, and they smite Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and he putteth him to death whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the land.

And all the Jews who have been with him, with Gedaliah, in Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who have been found there -- the men of war -- hath Ishmael smitten.

that men come in from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria -- eighty men -- with shaven beards, and rent garments, and cutting themselves, and an offering and frankincense in their hand, to bring in to the house of Jehovah.

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah goeth forth to meet them, from Mizpah, going on and weeping, and it cometh to pass, at meeting them, that he saith unto them, `Come in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam.`

And it cometh to pass, at their coming in unto the midst of the city, that Ishmael son of Nethaniah doth slaughter them, at the midst of the pit, he and the men who [are] with him.

And ten men have been found among them, and they say unto Ishmael, `Do not put us to death, for we have things hidden in the field -- wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey.` And he forbeareth, and hath not put them to death in the midst of their brethren.

And the pit whither Ishmael hath cast all the carcases of the men whom he hath smitten along with Gedaliah, is that which the king Asa made because of Baasha king of Israel -- it hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled with the pierced.

And Ishmael taketh captive all the remnant of the people who [are] in Mizpah, the daughters of the king, and all the people who are left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath committed [to] Gedaliah son of Ahikam, and Ishmael son of Nethaniah taketh them captive, and goeth to pass over unto the sons of Ammon.

ESCULTURA: PODE OU NÃO PODE?
2Crônicas 01-04
Hoje estou a todo vapor, com todo o ânimo, porque estamos começando a ler mais um livro da BÃblia. Na realidade, é uma continuação do livro de Crônicas. Ontem, quando terminamos de estudar o primeiro desses livros, eu estava falando sobre Salomão, e hoje também continua.
Na nossa leitura bÃblica, vemos que quando Salomão está construindo o templo, ele manda fazer dois querubins esculpidos para colocar dentro do templo. Daà alguém pode pensar que ele estava desobedecendo a Deus, mas não estava. Em Êxodo 27, o próprio Deus tinha mandado esculpir querubins para colocar dentro do santuário.
Então, surge outra pergunta: como Deus manda esculpir esses dois anjos se, nos Dez Mandamentos, Ele já tinha falado para não fazer imagem de escultura? Será que isso é uma contradição bÃblica? Para entendermos esse detalhe, precisamos entender o sentido do texto do mandamento.
Se observarmos bem os quatro primeiro mandamentos, eles estão relacionados à adoração, o culto que o ser humano presta. Todo ser humano adora alguma coisa. E aà que está o perigo. O único motivo de adoração correto é Deus e é para isso que ele chama a atenção no segundo mandamento, também. Quando diz para não fazer imagens de escultura, precisamos entender o porquê do pedido. Quando Deus diz para que não nos curvemos diante das imagens e não adoremos uma escultura, ou qualquer coisa que não seja o Senhor Deus, o ponto-chave é a adoração.
Se observarmos bem, podemos notar que, no santuário e no templo, ninguém se ajoelhava diante de um querubim esculpido para beijar, orar ou implorar alguma coisa. Ninguém usava alguma escultura para adorar ou fazer petições a ela e não a Deus. Esses querubins esculpidos eram apenas ilustrações e obras de arte. Não eram objetos para ser adorados como o mandamento condenaria.
Na realidade, Deus nunca condenou a habilidade artÃstica de pintar, bordar e até esculpir. O que Deus condena não é um desenho, um entalhe ou pintura. Ele condena quando colocamos alguma coisa no lugar de Deus em nossa vida. O Senhor ama o belo. Ele quer que Seus filhos olhem ao redor e em tudo lembrem-se dEle. O que Ele não pode tolerar é Seu povo aceitar alguém ou algo que não seja Jesus como Seu Salvador pessoal. Isso seria o que caracterizaria uma idolatria. E era essa a preocupação de Deus nos quatro primeiro mandamentos da lei.
E aqui cabe uma grande lição para nós: existe alguma coisa ocupando espaço entre você e Deus? Cuidado para que não haja, no seu coração, algo mais importante que Ele.
Coloque-O em primeiro lugar na sua vida sempre!
