And it cometh to pass, in the seventh month, come hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and of the chiefs of the king, and ten men with him, unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and they eat there bread together in Mizpah.

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah riseth, and the ten men who have been with him, and they smite Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and he putteth him to death whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the land.

And all the Jews who have been with him, with Gedaliah, in Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who have been found there -- the men of war -- hath Ishmael smitten.

And it cometh to pass, on the second day of the putting of Gedaliah to death, (and no one hath known,)

that men come in from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria -- eighty men -- with shaven beards, and rent garments, and cutting themselves, and an offering and frankincense in their hand, to bring in to the house of Jehovah.

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah goeth forth to meet them, from Mizpah, going on and weeping, and it cometh to pass, at meeting them, that he saith unto them, `Come in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam.`

And it cometh to pass, at their coming in unto the midst of the city, that Ishmael son of Nethaniah doth slaughter them, at the midst of the pit, he and the men who [are] with him.

And ten men have been found among them, and they say unto Ishmael, `Do not put us to death, for we have things hidden in the field -- wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey.` And he forbeareth, and hath not put them to death in the midst of their brethren.

And the pit whither Ishmael hath cast all the carcases of the men whom he hath smitten along with Gedaliah, is that which the king Asa made because of Baasha king of Israel -- it hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled with the pierced.

And Ishmael taketh captive all the remnant of the people who [are] in Mizpah, the daughters of the king, and all the people who are left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath committed [to] Gedaliah son of Ahikam, and Ishmael son of Nethaniah taketh them captive, and goeth to pass over unto the sons of Ammon.

FAMÍLIA É TUDO
Gênesis 23-25
Nossa leitura bíblica de hoje fala sobre a morte de Sara, mulher de Abraão; a viagem do empregado principal de Abraão para se encontrar com a família de Abraão em sua terra de origem, a casa de Naor; o casamento de Isaque, filho de Abraão com Rebeca; o segundo casamento de Abraão; a morte da Abraão e, por último, sobre os netos de Abraão. Enfim, são anotações sobre a família de alguém que era “paizão”. Nesses textos, há preciosas lições necessárias para a nossa vida, já que o assunto é família. E família é tudo, não é mesmo?
É fácil perceber que a família está em crise no mundo de hoje. A infidelidade, os relacionamentos frustrados, a depressão, o alcoolismo, o uso de drogas, a rebeldia, o suicídio de jovens e uma série de outros males atingiram proporções epidêmicas. Se em nossa sociedade houvesse mais famílias felizes, com certeza, teríamos um mundo melhor. Esse é o motivo pelo qual a Bíblia mostra as histórias das famílias que, apesar de terem seus defeitos, procuravam fazer o seu melhor. Olhando para a história da família de Abraão e de outras famílias da Bíblia, você pode aprender sobre a escolha do companheiro de vida, o que é indispensável para um casamento completo, o sexo, a educação dos filhos, as finanças, a saúde e outros temas de grande importância para a felicidade no lar.
Portanto, o plano de ler a Bíblia é um guia e incentivo para você enriquecer ainda mais seus relacionamentos e ter uma família cada vez mais feliz! Afinal, uma das maiores necessidades do ser humano é a de amar e ser amado. O amor é indispensável à sobrevivência, pois, sem ele, perdemos nossas vitalidades emocional e física. Quando experimentamos o amor, sentimos um profundo bem-estar que nos afeta física, mental, social e espiritualmente.
Carência de afeto leva muita gente ao divórcio, aos hospitais psiquiátricos e ao suicídio. Uma criança que não tem um relacionamento afetivo com os pais, especialmente com a mãe, pode desenvolver distúrbios emocionais e apresentar prejuízos no desenvolvimento físico. Para manter o casamento, só o amor; quando ele falta, a família se desmorona em frustração.
Desenvolver o amor verdadeiro pode fortalecer a união a dois, tornando-a aprazível e satisfatória. Isso é trabalho de uma vida. Mas o amor desenvolvido é essencial para a própria plenitude da vida e da felicidade familiar. Esse desenvolvimento depende da nossa atitude e não dos nossos sentimentos. Para agir assim, precisamos nos aproximar cada vez mais de Deus, porque Ele é a única fonte do amor.
