The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him -- and he a prisoner in chains -- in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

And the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, `Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,

and Jehovah bringeth [it] in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.

`And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that [are] on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land [is] before thee, whither [it be] good, and whither [it be] right in thine eyes to go -- go.` --

and while he doth not reply -- `Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go -- go.` And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,

and Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.

And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;

and they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.

And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, `Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

and I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.`

SERÁ MERA COINCIDÊNCIA?
2Reis 15-17
Na leitura de hoje, encontramos nove reis reinando sobre o povo de Deus, na Palestina, nos reinos de Judá e Israel. É pena que sete deles foram reprovados por Deus. O Senhor não gostaria de reprová-los, mas, segundo a Bíblia, eles foram reprovados porque, por suas próprias ações, fizeram o que é reprovável. Então, se alguém sabe que tal atitude é reprovável e ainda comente tal ato, o que deve esperar? Ser aprovado é que não é, concorda? Pelo menos se tiver um pouco de juízo na cabeça.
Achei essa análise interessante. Dos nove reis, sete fizeram atos reprováveis e dois procuraram fazer o que Deus aprova. Podemos ver o resultado disso no tempo de seus reinados. Alguns deles ficaram no trono só algumas semanas. Aqueles que mais reinaram foram os que fizeram o que o Senhor aprova. Isso não é curioso? Quer ver isso por si mesmo? Faça essa análise em 2Reis 15-17. Dessa análise, destaco o que mais reinou: Azarias. Foi aprovado. Começou a reinar com 16 anos e reinou 52 anos sobre Judá. Ele foi um dos únicos que fez o que o Senhor aprova. Seria mera coincidência?
Sabe, não é que Deus seja um Deus de negociações, com quem tenhamos que barganhar para nos sairmos “bem na fita”. Mas a questão é que como Ele sabe de tudo, sabe o que é bom e ruim. Sabe o que dá certo e o que não dá. O Senhor tem Seu critério estabelecido: “Olha, isso dá certo, é aprovável. Porém, isso aqui não dá certo, é reprovável.” Entende? São as coisas óbvias da vida.
Tenho um amigo que vive com medo de pegar AIDS. E é interessante o contraste quando conversamos. Eu digo: Rapaz, nunca tive esse medo. Por que será?
Ele é alguém que vive se prostituindo, e eu sou casado e pertenço a uma única mulher. Ele está num grupo de risco que eu não estou. A sociedade criou esse termo para levantar essa placa de advertência para nós. “Grupo de risco”: risco de pegar AIDS, risco de morrer mais jovem... Você já percebeu que a média de vida das pessoas está relacionada com o estilo de vida que levam? Um dia desses, morreu o homem mais velho do mundo, um índio com mais de 130 anos de idade. Antes dele morrer, perguntaram qual era seu segredo da longevidade. Sua resposta foi: “É que cuido bem do meu corpo!”
Que contraste com a baixa expectativa de vida de uma prostituta, por exemplo. Será mera coincidência? São as coisas óbvias da vida. Faça o que é aprovável, e a própria vida aprovará você!
