And it cometh to pass, in the seventh month, come hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and of the chiefs of the king, and ten men with him, unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and they eat there bread together in Mizpah.

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah riseth, and the ten men who have been with him, and they smite Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and he putteth him to death whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the land.

And all the Jews who have been with him, with Gedaliah, in Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who have been found there -- the men of war -- hath Ishmael smitten.

And it cometh to pass, on the second day of the putting of Gedaliah to death, (and no one hath known,)

that men come in from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria -- eighty men -- with shaven beards, and rent garments, and cutting themselves, and an offering and frankincense in their hand, to bring in to the house of Jehovah.

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah goeth forth to meet them, from Mizpah, going on and weeping, and it cometh to pass, at meeting them, that he saith unto them, `Come in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam.`

And it cometh to pass, at their coming in unto the midst of the city, that Ishmael son of Nethaniah doth slaughter them, at the midst of the pit, he and the men who [are] with him.

And ten men have been found among them, and they say unto Ishmael, `Do not put us to death, for we have things hidden in the field -- wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey.` And he forbeareth, and hath not put them to death in the midst of their brethren.

And the pit whither Ishmael hath cast all the carcases of the men whom he hath smitten along with Gedaliah, is that which the king Asa made because of Baasha king of Israel -- it hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled with the pierced.

And Ishmael taketh captive all the remnant of the people who [are] in Mizpah, the daughters of the king, and all the people who are left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath committed [to] Gedaliah son of Ahikam, and Ishmael son of Nethaniah taketh them captive, and goeth to pass over unto the sons of Ammon.

VENCER É POUCO
Romanos 08-10
Falando de futebol, o Brasil sempre foi o melhor do mundo. Sempre esteve no topo do ranking. Sempre teve a maior quantidade de títulos mundiais. Nenhum país já exportou tantos jogadores. Mas a quantidade de estrelas que a camisa verde e amarela sustentava parecia não fazer justiça aos méritos futebolísticos deste país. As pessoas não ficam olhando o currículo; só o resultado final; e como extrato que parecesse representar tudo para o mundo, o Brasil era apenas mais um, entre os três tri-campeões mundiais. Os 150 milhões de torcedores da terra do Pelé não se contentavam em saber que os outros dois concorrentes que ostentavam o mesmo título, com sua menoridade neste esporte, ofuscavam o brilho de quem sempre foi o melhor. O brasileiro almejava muito, ver o seu país segurar a taça de 1994; nem para o penta, nem para o hexa, houve tanta expectativa. A cada jogo, o país, as pessoas e até os corações paralisavam, no limite da goela.
A intensidade desta ansiedade coletiva aumentou no último jogo. Não porque os brasileiros temessem o adversário, mas porque se ele ganhasse, a injustiça se transformaria em sentença final: seria a Itália que, embora mais fraca, seguraria um título à frente do real dono da arte. Durante os 90 minutos, tudo parecia luto. O silêncio predominante, as pessoas reunidas e as mãos unidas, descreviam para o mundo o peso de importância que aquela finalização trazia para cada coração. Mas a duração da angústia prorrogou-se no fim das duas horas, com o resultado de empate. Quem era o campeão? Durante os 30 minutos de acréscimo os jogadores pareciam arrastar-se. “Parece que a cabeça manda, mas o corpo não vai”. “Não dá mais”, “Haja coração”. Lembra dessas frases?
Haja coração para ver um título, um campeonato, uma espera de 24 anos, irem de ralo abaixo numa tremida de pênalti; para alegrar-se com o gosto de ver a tarefa bem concluída; desfrutar do gosto de obter o melhor do mundo. Disparado na frente, muito mais que vencedor.
Mas é possível ir além da vitória, e ser mais que um vencedor? Este conceito é bíblico. Se Deus nos concedesse apenas títulos de vitoriosos, ficaria frustrado. O pódium é pequeno demais para o tamanho do sonho que Ele tem para o nosso sucesso, pois só cabe um de cada vez. Mas como ser um vencedor singular e destacado dividindo, ao mesmo tempo, este espaço com os concorrentes? Apenas no plano divino, é que “sabemos que Deus age em todas as coisas para o bem daqueles que o amam, dos que foram chamados de acordo com o seu propósito (Romanos 8:28)”.
