And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

And the king went up to the house of Jehovah, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of Jehovah.

And the king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all [his] heart, and all [his] soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book: and all the people stood to the covenant.

And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the host of heaven, and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Beth-el.

And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust, and cast the dust thereof upon the graves of the common people.

And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were in the house of Jehovah, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-sheba; and he brake down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they did eat unleavened bread among their brethren.

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

“LIDHERANÇA”
Números 17-19
No curso do programa “Vision R.E.A.L.”, deparei-me com a história que transcrevo abaixo, que foi contada por Roger L. Smalling.
“Westpoint, universidade de preparação dos oficiais do exército dos Estados Unidos, é conhecida por seu estrito código de honra. Ao responder a qualquer pergunta, os cadetes podem dar somente quatro respostas: - Sim, senhor; Não, senhor; Não sei, senhor; ou, Sem escusas, senhor. Apresentar escusas é praticamente um crime. Se uma pessoa sob a responsabilidade de um cadete cometer um erro, o cadete assume a culpa. Isso é para lhes ensinar a responsabilidade, a honra e, sobretudo, a integridade.
“Um destes cadetes graduados foi enviado ao Vietnã como tenente. Sua primeira missão foi na selva para supervisionar a construção de uma pista que já estava em construção. Um sargento era o responsável da obra. Desafortunadamente, o tenente não sabia nada sobre pistas, e perguntou ao sargento:
- Tem certeza de que a direção desta pista é a correta?
O sargento lhe garantiu que sim. Então o tenente disse:
- Bem, confiarei no seu critério, continuem.
“Uma hora e meia depois, um coronel que era um perito em pistas chegou e gritou:
- Quem foi o idiota que ordenou construir esta pista desta forma?
O tenente por pouco disse:
- Este sargento aqui, disse que sabia... - Mas suas palavras foram:
- Eu, senhor.
O coronel olhou para o tenente e perguntou:
- Por que deu essa ordem?
- Sem escusas, senhor! - o tenente respondeu:
Nesse momento, o sargento se aproximou com sua mão levantada pedindo permissão para falar. O coronel aparentemente deduziu o que havia passado e perguntou ao tenente:
- Você vem de Westpoint, não é verdade?
- Sim, senhor - o tenente respondeu.
-Bem, nesse caso, foi um erro íntegro – disse o coronel, olhando para o sargento e o tenente.
“Mais tarde o coronel convidou ao tenente para unir-se à sua equipe de comando. Isto representava uma promoção importante.”
Depois que você leu essa história, reflita: Você aprendeu alguma lição de moral, conseguiu extrair algum princípio desta história para a vida? Creio que sua resposta seja um “sim”. Logo, tenho outra pergunta: As lições que você encontrou nessa história são sobre que assunto? Se sua resposta é: “Liderança”, então pensamos de forma parecida. Na realidade, essa história está na página treze do manual para professores, “Liderança Cristã”, traduzido por Francisco Moura da Silva.
Agora, se de uma pequena história assim, tão comum, foi-lhe possível tirar boas lições, imagine então, o que seria, de uma história escrita por Deus? Saiba que a leitura de hoje apresenta histórias que nos ensinam preciosas lições sobre liderança.
