And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the royal seed, and [one] of the king's chief men, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam unto Mizpah, and there they ate bread together, in Mizpah.

And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah arose, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

And Ishmael smote all the Jews that were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, the men of war.

And it came to pass the second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

that there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, eighty men, having their beards shaven and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves; with oblations and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of Jehovah.

And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went; and it came to pass when he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, he and the men that were with him, slew them, [and cast them] into the midst of the pit.

But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Do not kill us, for we have hidden stores in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbore, and did not kill them among their brethren.

And the pit into which Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had slain by the side of Gedaliah was the one which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain.

And Ishmael carried away captive all the remnant of the people that were in Mizpah, the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

“DEUS É FIEL.” ESTÁ CERTO?
2Samuel 15-17
O texto bíblico proposto para hoje lembrou-me de uma carta que recebi de um questionador de Barra Mansa, RJ. Ele pergunta sobre ser certo ou não dizer que Deus é fiel. Nas entrelinhas de 2Samuel 15-17 é possível ver o relacionamento entre Davi e Deus. Nessa relação, a fidelidade brota de ambas as direções. Pelas lições aprendidas, tal drama pode ajudar a responder ao questionamento do nosso irmão:
“Podemos dizer que Deus é fiel? Não concordo de jeito nenhum com a frase ‘Deus é fiel’, pois nós é que temos de ser fiéis a Ele. Fidelidade não significa subordinação? Para ser fiel não é preciso ser subordinado? Como pode o homem mortal dizer que Ele é fiel? Esta frase não banaliza o conceito correto sobre Deus?”
Será realmente errado dizer que Deus é fiel? Quem diz que Ele é fiel, os homens ou Ele mesmo? O que significa a palavra fidelidade? Do latim “fidelis”, a palavra “fiel” significa literalmente “ser digno de confiança”. No dicionário, fidelidade é “demonstração de zelo”, “lealdade”, “constância nos compromissos assumidos”, etc. E o interessante é que estou usando um dicionário de 2922 páginas, muito completo. É o Dicionário Houaiss da Língua Portuguesa, da Editora Objetiva. Ele usa um texto de quase trezentas palavras para definir a palavra fidelidade. Detalhe: nesse texto não há a palavra subordinação ou qualquer derivado a partir de sua raiz.
Então eu pergunto: esses atributos acima não podem ser atribuídos a Deus? Não podemos dizer que Ele é digno de confiança, zeloso, leal e constante nos compromissos que assume para conosco?
Entretanto, ver a Deus como um ser fiel é uma questão mais profunda que um simples estudo morfológico. Este atributo divino é uma característica ditada pela própria Bíblia e, em alguns casos, a partir da própria narrativa de Deus. Não foi o homem quem inventou o termo que expressa que Deus é fiel. Ele mesmo se revela ao homem como fiel em muitos lugares na Bíblia, por exemplo: Deuteronômio 7:9; Salmo 19:7; 33:4; 145:13; Isaías 41:10; 49:7; 61:8; 1Coríntios 10:13; 2Coríntios 1:18; 1Tessalonicenses 5:24; 2Tessalonicenses 3:3... Enfim, há dezenas de passagens bíblicas que dizem que o Senhor é fiel. Delas, eu destaco a última que encontrei, que diz o seguinte: “Vi o céu aberto, e eis um cavalo branco. O seu cavaleiro se chama fiel e Verdadeiro e julga e peleja com justiça” (Apocalipse 19:11). E esse cavaleiro é Jesus, o Deus Fiel. Não concordar que Deus seja fiel seria antibíblico porque iria contrariar Sua própria revelação. Veja sobre a fidelidade de Deus nos bastidores da história de hoje.
Como Ele é fiel! Amém?!
