And the seventh month cometh, and the sons of Israel [are] in the cities, and the people are gathered, as one men, unto Jerusalem.

|Esdras 3:2|
And rise doth Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and they build the altar of the God of Israel, to cause to ascend upon it burnt-offerings, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of God.

|Esdras 3:3|
And they establish the altar on its bases, because of the fear upon them of the peoples of the lands, and he causeth burnt-offerings to ascend upon it to Jehovah, burnt-offerings for the morning and for the evening.

And they make the feast of the booths as it is written, and the burnt-offering of the day daily in number according to the ordinance, the matter of a day in its day;

|Esdras 3:5|
and after this a continual burnt-offering, and for new moons, and for all appointed seasons of Jehovah that are sanctified; and for every one who is willingly offering a willing-offering to Jehovah.

From the first day of the seventh month they have begun to cause burnt-offerings to ascend to Jehovah, and the temple of Jehovah hath not been founded,

and they give money to hewers and to artificers, and food, and drink, and oil to Zidonians and to Tyrians, to bring in cedar-trees from Lebanon unto the sea of Joppa, according to the permission of Cyrus king of Persia concerning them.

And in the second year of their coming in unto the house of God, to Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all those coming from the captivity to Jerusalem, and they appoint the Levites from a son of twenty years and upward, to overlook the work of the house of Jehovah.

And Jeshua standeth, [and] his sons, and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, sons of Judah together, to overlook those doing the work in the house of God; the sons of Henadad, [and] their sons and their brethren the Levites.

And those building have founded the temple of Jehovah, and they appoint the priests, clothed, with trumpets, and the Levites, sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise Jehovah, by means of [the instruments of] David king of Israel.

UM PRESENTE DE AMOR

O que pode rolar no relacionamento de duas pessoas casadas? No livro “Os melhores contos de O. Henry”, da editora Círculo do Livro há uma história que muitos já a chamaram de “História Cabeluda”. Este famoso contista norte-americano, conta-nos de um casal muito pobre que queria se presentear no Natal, mas nenhum dos dois tinha dinheiro.
Como ela tinha um cabelo maravilhoso, resolveu vendê-lo para comprar uma pulseira nova para ele colocar no relógio que havia herdado do pai (uma jóia que acompanhava a família há três gerações), e que há muito tempo estava com a pulseira quebrada.
Quando ele chegou em casa, na noite de Natal, levou um tremendo susto ao vê-la de cabelo curto, mas sua surpresa foi ainda maior quando ela lhe deu a pulseira, pois, para poder comprar para ela dois pentes raros, de casco de tartaruga, orlados de pedraria, na cor exata para combinar com seu cabelo, ele havia vendido o relógio.
Esta deliciosa história de amor conjugal não é um simples incentivo para que, neste Natal que se aproxima, você se lembre com carinho, das pessoas que você ama. Não se sinta devedor de presentes. “Não devam nada a ninguém, a não ser o amor (Romanos 13:8)”. Paulo enfatizou a necessidade do amor, do começo ao fim dos seus escritos. No último capítulo da leitura de hoje, ainda podemos ver a cor do amor estampada nas exortações finais. E se existe uma coisa que deve sempre ser mantida em alta, num matrimônio, é o amor.
Isto pode parecer óbvio, mas, por incrível que pareça, é muito fácil acontecer de o amor entre dois cônjuges esfriar-se. Um dos segredos para que o amor não se esfrie é a manutenção da pureza. E quando rompe-se os limites daquilo que é puro, o desrespeito destrói o amor. Foi por isto que o apóstolo admoestou que “o casamento deve ser honrado por todos; o leito conjugal, conservado puro; pois Deus julgará os imorais e os adúlteros (Hebreus 13:4)”. Na versão Almeida Revista e Atualizada este verso é traduzido assim: “Digno de honra entre todos seja o matrimônio, bem como o leito sem mácula”. Onde não há mácula há honra.
E o cultivo do amor precisa do canteiro da honra, para que todos os pontos, até mesmo os mais íntimos, sejam saudáveis. O sexo faz parte do plano de Deus para o prazer das pessoas casadas. Mas é necessário que seja regido por princípios. E os princípios divinos são o presente que Deus deixou para isto. O resumo de todos eles pode ser lido em 1Coríntios 13:8.
