The children of those that had been carried away, who had come out of the captivity, presented burnt-offerings to the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, twelve he-goats for a sin-offering: all for a burnt-offering to Jehovah.

Creio que a metáfora acima ilustra muito bem o lado tinto, senão vinagreiro, de Romanos. O pecado é um assunto realmente amargo, até na boca de quem gosta, mais cedo ou mais tarde. Para o pregador mais conhecido na Ingleterra na segunda metade do século dezenove, que ficou famoso até hoje por seu conteúdo e veemências proclamados, Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-92), “...há pecado até na nossa santidade, há incredulidade na nossa fé; há ódio no nosso próprio amor; há lama da serpente na mais bela flor do nosso jardim”. Este é o reconhecimento humano mais honesto que pode existir: sou pecador (Salmo 51).
Mas não deve parar por aí. O antigo teólogo São João Crisóstomo já dizia que “pecar é humano, mas perseverar no pecado é diabólico”. Apesar de que os capítulos propostos para hoje não dão a volta para escancarar a podridão do pecado, são também um dos trechos bíblicos mais cheios de esperança. Quer conhecer a restauração? Leia-os!
