And the king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

And the king went up into the house of Jehovah, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of Jehovah.

And the king stood on the dais, and made a covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all [his] heart, and with all [his] soul, to establish the words of this covenant that are written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

And the king commanded Hilkijah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that had been made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the host of the heavens; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Bethel.

And he abolished the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah, and the environs of Jerusalem; and them that burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.

And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, outside Jerusalem, to the torrent of Kidron, and burned it at the torrent of Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder upon the graves of the children of the people.

And he broke down the houses of the sodomites, which were in the house of Jehovah, where the women wove tents for the Asherah.

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba even to Beer-sheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates, those at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, [and] those on the left hand of any [going in] at the gate of the city.

Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they ate of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, that no man might cause his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

Jeremias 20-23
O que você tem aprendido, ao ler o livro de Jeremias? Da leitura de hoje, aprendi algumas coisas muito interessantes e quero compartilhá-las com você. Em Jeremias 19-20:6 você tem a confrontação entre Jeremias e Pasur. O pau quebrou! O sacerdote mandou amarrar o profeta no tronco e esbofeteá-lo. Mas, mesmo assim, Jeremias não se intimidou em cumprir sua tarefa. Isso pode servir de exemplo para você, meu querido. Você é uma testemunha de Jesus? Então, não se intimide. Não tenha vergonha de dar o seu testemunho. Demonstre sua fé.
As “confissões de Jeremias (Jeremias 20:7-18)” são duas declarações do profeta. A primeira (versos 7-13) começa uma queixa e termina com um hino de louvor. E a lição que tiramos é a de que embora tenhamos muitos espinhos no caminho, vamos terminar sempre cantando e louvando a Deus. Ele nos aconselha a, em tudo, dar graças (1Tessalonicenses 5:18), por saber que quem canta é mais feliz. E na segunda confissão (versos 14-18), Jeremias não para de louvar, mesmo em meio ao peso da dor que o ministério lhe trazia.
Em Jeremias 21:1-10, o profeta põe o dedo na ferida dos moradores de Jerusalém. Imagine um imigrante do terceiro mundo, nos Estados Unidos, praguejando, em alto e bom som, a tudo e a todos os americanos! Se você não é um tchê, imagine-se, hospedado na casa de um gaúcho, falando que deseja a destruição de todo o Rio Grande do Sul! Seria loucura, não seria? Pois a atitude de Jeremias foi nesse nível de loucura, aos olhos humanos, com a insistente manchete: Predita a Destruição de Jerusalém Por Nabucodonosor. Esta predição e os conselhos que a acompanharam granjearam para Jeremias o rótulo de traidor. Ele quase que foi martirizado por isso. E Jeremias 22 explica o porquê. Se estrangeiros perguntassem por que Jerusalém tinha sido destruída, a resposta seria: “Porque deixaram a aliança do Senhor seu Deus, e adoraram a outros deuses e o serviram”.
E a série de pronunciamentos que segue sendo apresentada pelo texto – contra Salum, Jeoacaz, Jeoaquim e Jeconias – é, na realidade, uma só coisa: profecias contra a casa real de Judá. Trata-se de uma coleção de declarações feitas em épocas diferentes (cada um deles, na época do respectivo rei a que se refere) e juntados aí, mas, todos eles, condenando as ações daquela nação de judeus. A nação estava ligada ao Senhor por um concerto, e não poderiam repudiá-lo impunemente.
Você já entregou seu coração a Jesus? Já? Isto é uma aliança. E você não pode repudiar a isto, e não esperar que tal atitude não lhe traga conseqüências.
Servir a Jesus compensa.
