And the king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

And the king went up into the house of Jehovah, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of Jehovah.

And the king stood on the dais, and made a covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all [his] heart, and with all [his] soul, to establish the words of this covenant that are written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

And the king commanded Hilkijah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that had been made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the host of the heavens; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Bethel.

And he abolished the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah, and the environs of Jerusalem; and them that burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.

And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, outside Jerusalem, to the torrent of Kidron, and burned it at the torrent of Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder upon the graves of the children of the people.

And he broke down the houses of the sodomites, which were in the house of Jehovah, where the women wove tents for the Asherah.

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba even to Beer-sheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates, those at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, [and] those on the left hand of any [going in] at the gate of the city.

Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they ate of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, that no man might cause his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

Ontem, diante de tantas leis que encontramos na leitura do dia, começamos a refletir sobre o que o mundo seria se não houvesse leis. Como a leitura bíblica continua cheia de regras, vamos continuar com o assunto. A autoria é de Rodrigo P. Silva, em seu livro “Abrindo o Jogo”.
Há outro problema com relação a essa idéia de liberdade em que as pessoas devem servir de leis para si mesmas. Muitos, senão a maioria, não sabem definir o que querem. E assim, ninguém define o que é, de fato, “politicamente correto”. Disso, torna-se injustificável dizer que a voz do povo é a voz de Deus.
Quando os homens vivem indiferentes à lei divina, são entregues às suas próprias tendências. Crendo que são inteligentes, acabam fazendo tolices. Observe como Romanos 1:18-27 descreve muito bem o que comumente se vê por aí. Há aqueles que, de forma redutiva do pensamento, ainda questionam “Deus nos criou assim para adorá-Lo. Se O adorarmos, teremos a vida; senão, seremos condenados. Ele nos deu a liberdade para escolhermos. Que liberdade é essa onde só existem duas opções?” Essas pessoas questionam dessa forma porque não refletiram antes de fazer sua pergunta sobre: “Qual o problema com essa opção de Deus, se nela está a perfeição?”, ou ainda, “Eu teria uma terceira opção melhor?” E é aí que esbarra a tentativa do debate que a pobre e limitada criatura quer ter com o Criador (João 6:68).
Talvez você argumente que não se sente contrário às leis. Só quer que elas sejam coerentes. E as normas de Deus são coerentes. O problema é que essa aversão às leis (em especial, à lei de Deus) não é característica somente de alguns indivíduos. Todos nós temos em grau maior ou menor uma resistência em cumprir ordens, mesmo que elas sejam boas aos nossos olhos (Romanos 3:9-12). O apóstolo Paulo se irritou certa vez consigo mesmo ao perceber que não conseguia seguir à risca aquilo que sabia ser certo (Romanos 7:19 e 24). Como se vê, boa vontade e admissão do dever não são tudo. Precisamos da ajuda de Cristo tanto para enxergar a coerência dos mandamentos de Deus quanto para cumpri-los a despeito de nossa fraqueza. Ao enfrentar, portanto, as dificuldades desta vida, que você utilize “toda” a sua força: que peça a Deus para lhe ajudar. O Céu atenderá prontamente os seus pedidos de socorro. É só tentar.
Resumindo, muitas pessoas acreditam que as leis são o oposto da liberdade. Porém, a verdade é o contrário disso: são as leis, quando boas, que sempre garantiram a liberdade humana através dos tempos. Obedeça as leis divinas!
