and go out to the Valley of Ben Hinnom, near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate. There proclaim the words I tell you,

and say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and people of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Listen! I am going to bring a disaster on this place that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle.

For they have forsaken me and made this a place of foreign gods; they have burned sacrifices in it to gods that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah ever knew, and they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.

They have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as offerings to Baal — something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind.

So beware, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when people will no longer call this place Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.

“‘In this place I will ruin [The Hebrew for ruin sounds like the Hebrew for jar (see verses 1 and 10).] the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, at the hands of those who seek their lives, and I will give their carcasses as food to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.

I will devastate this city and make it an object of scorn; all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds.

I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh during the stress of the siege imposed on them by the enemies who seek their lives.’

SEMPRE AO SEU LADO
Josué 18-21
Ao fazer a leitura de hoje, você perceberá que as coisas que aconteciam na vida do povo eram grandes cumprimentos das promessas que já haviam sido feitas. Deus sempre cumpre as promessas? Às vezes, pode até parecer demorado, como uma história que aconteceu na Romênia.
Havia um cidadão romeno, que sempre dizia ao filho:
- Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado.
Naquela época, aconteceu um terremoto muito grande, que arrasou muitas das construções. Aquele cidadão estava na estrada, longe do seu filho. Imagine como deve ter ficado o coração desse pai! Ele foi direto à escola onde o filho estudava. Quando chegou lá, ficou decepcionado. A escola estava totalmente destruída.
Aquele homem foi tomado de uma tristeza tão grande, que na cabeça dele ficavam latejando aquelas palavras: “Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei...”
Ele não podia acreditar. Teorizou isso tantas vezes, mas agora, na hora da morte, ele não pudera cumprir a promessa. Seu coração estava dilacerado.
Ele ficou andando por cima dos entulhos até descobrir a altura do local onde tinha sido a sala de aulas do filho. Desesperado, começou a cavar com as próprias mãos. Com um enorme peso na mente, ficava repetindo aquelas palavras da promessa: “Haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado.”
Outros pais chegaram, até bem intencionados, e tentavam afastá-lo, dizendo:
- Amigo, vai pra casa. Não adianta, não sobrou ninguém.
E ele, decidido, respondia:
- Você vai me ajudar?
Ninguém o ajudava. Pouco a pouco, todas as pessoas iam se afastando. E não adiantava tentar convencer aquele homem. Desesperado, cavando com as mãos, repetia a mesma frase.
A polícia, parentes e até os bombeiros tentaram convencê-lo de parar com aquela loucura, mas não adiantou. Ele continuou por 30 horas.
Aí, depois de trinta horas, quando afastou uma enorme pedra, sempre repetindo aquela frase: “Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado”, então ouviu:
- Papai! Estou aqui!
- Filho, você está bem?
- Estou. Mas tenho sede, fome e estou com medo.
Impressionante! Aquele pai conseguiu, contra tudo e todos, encontrar seu filho ainda vivo, além de mais 14 crianças sobreviventes, as quais até os bombeiros já tinham dado por mortas.
O filho teve toda essa força de sobrevivência devido à promessa: “Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado.”
Deus também sempre cumpre Suas promessas. Creia que o Senhor, o seu pai, é o pai mais amoroso e fiel do mundo. Ele nunca desiste dos Seus filhos. Sua promessa para você é: “Filho, haja o que houver, sempre estarei ao seu lado.”
Deus é apaixonado por você!
