|Lamentações 2:1|
“Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many and my heart is faint.” [This chapter is an acrostic poem, the verses of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.] How the Lord has covered the Daughter of Zion with the cloud of his anger! [Or How the LORD in his anger has treated the Daughter of Zion with contempt!] He has hurled down the splendour of Israel from heaven to earth; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

|Lamentações 2:2|
Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of the Daughter of Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonour.

|Lamentações 2:3|
In fierce anger he has cut off every horn [Or all the strength; or every king; horn here symbolises strength.] of Israel. He has withdrawn his right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.

Like an enemy he has strung his bow; his right hand is ready. Like a foe he has slain all who were pleasing to the eye; he has poured out his wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of Zion.

|Lamentações 2:5|
The Lord is like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation for the Daughter of Judah.

He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden; he has destroyed his place of meeting. The LORD has made Zion forget her appointed feasts and her Sabbaths; in his fierce anger he has spurned both king and priest.

The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has handed over to the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.

The LORD determined to tear down the wall around the Daughter of Zion. He stretched out a measuring line and did not withhold his hand from destroying. He made ramparts and walls lament; together they wasted away.

Her gates have sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and her prophets no longer find visions from the LORD.

The elders of the Daughter of Zion sit on the ground in silence; they have sprinkled dust on their heads and put on sackcloth. The young women of Jerusalem have bowed their heads to the ground.

Jeremias 07-09
Gente que fica em cima do muro. Gente que nem é nem deixa de ser. Crente que não tem coragem de largar a igreja, mas também não tem a coragem de deixar de amar o mundo. Conhece pessoas assim? Você sabia que essas pessoas são as mais infelizes do mundo? Porque elas perdem os dois lados da moeda: a oportunidade de curtir os prazeres que o pecado oferece, numa curta e infernal vida, e também a oportunidade de viver eternamente com Deus.
O indivíduo que abre mão de todas as coisas que não são aprovadas pelos princípios bíblicos, apesar de gostar muito de tais coisas, mas por amar, integral e incondicionalmente a Jesus, será recompensado. Viverá eternamente com Deus, curtindo infinitos prazeres. Por outro lado, a pessoa que é honesta o suficiente para admitir a própria insanidade de que esse negócio de Deus e vida eterna não são com ela, perderá o Céu, mas ele viverá a vidinha curta dos prazeres doloridos deste mundo aqui.
Contudo, a pessoa que se engana não praticando as coisas erradas desse mundo, mas guardando-as no coração, é um tipo de pessoa muito tola. E o pior: você e eu corremos esse risco. É exatamente entre o povo de Deus que acontece a síndrome do povo do tempo de Jeremias. Aquele profeta presenciou, muito de perto, tal hipocrisia que acontecia na vida dos seus irmãos, conterrâneos, amigos, pastores, etc. A síndrome da inutilidade da falsa religião era desencadeada de um apego falso ao pensamento de que o templo poderia proteger do comportamento iníquo (Jeremias 7). “Igreja não salva ninguém” é um jargão que deve ser considerado. Só por ter nascido em uma família ortodoxa e ser cadastrado como um membro regular de uma igreja, você acha que será salvo? Ter cargos na igreja pode salvar alguém? Quem carrega consigo essas falsas convicções já está perdido.
O único que pode salvar é Aquele que entra em cenário em Jeremias 7-9. Ele faz de tudo para despertar o povo da sonolência mortífera quanto ao verdadeiro significado da vida religiosa. Deus é capaz de fazer de tudo o possível (e até muitas coisas impossíveis) para salvar-lhe. E nisso entra também a disciplina. O vale da matança (cáp. 7) pode ser ilustrado com uma caixa de batatas da qual você lança fora as podres a fim de ainda salvar as que estão boas. Os castigos do capítulo oito representam as atitudes de um pai que quer moldar o caráter de um filho, fazendo parte, também, do processo educacional. Escute-lhe o suspiro: “Vejam, sou eu que vou refiná-los e prová-los. Que mais posso eu fazer pelo meu povo?”
