|Lamentações 2:1|
“Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many and my heart is faint.” [This chapter is an acrostic poem, the verses of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.] How the Lord has covered the Daughter of Zion with the cloud of his anger! [Or How the LORD in his anger has treated the Daughter of Zion with contempt!] He has hurled down the splendour of Israel from heaven to earth; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

|Lamentações 2:2|
Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of the Daughter of Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonour.

|Lamentações 2:3|
In fierce anger he has cut off every horn [Or all the strength; or every king; horn here symbolises strength.] of Israel. He has withdrawn his right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.

Like an enemy he has strung his bow; his right hand is ready. Like a foe he has slain all who were pleasing to the eye; he has poured out his wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of Zion.

The Lord is like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation for the Daughter of Judah.

He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden; he has destroyed his place of meeting. The LORD has made Zion forget her appointed feasts and her Sabbaths; in his fierce anger he has spurned both king and priest.

The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has handed over to the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.

The LORD determined to tear down the wall around the Daughter of Zion. He stretched out a measuring line and did not withhold his hand from destroying. He made ramparts and walls lament; together they wasted away.

Her gates have sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and her prophets no longer find visions from the LORD.

The elders of the Daughter of Zion sit on the ground in silence; they have sprinkled dust on their heads and put on sackcloth. The young women of Jerusalem have bowed their heads to the ground.

EM TEMPO DE CRISE
2Crônicas 32-33
Ontem, comentei sobre Ezequias e tudo de bom que ele foi e fez. Porém, como nada é perfeito, na leitura de hoje, encontramos um problemão que Ezequias enfrentou. Desafio-lhe a complementar e entender melhor essa história em 2Reis 18-19.
Depois que Ezequias e o povo estavam há anos pagando impostos aos assírios - o povo que dominava a região, na época - e Ezequias ter então decidido se rebelar, os assírios vieram com tudo para cima deles. O profeta Isaías avisou Ezequias para ficar “bonzinho” (Isaías 30-313), mas ele não quis dar ouvidos! Os assírios, súditos de Senaqueribe, vieram do norte massacrando o reino de Israel, deixando terror e destruição por onde passavam. E agora estavam batendo à porta dos judeus. Quando se viu ameaçado, Ezequias mudou de ideia rapidamente e enviou o imposto que devia, mas aí não adiantava mais. Havia muitas taxas devido às multas de atraso.
Senaqueribe exigiu que os judeus se rendessem completamente. Novamente, Ezequias se recusou a fazer. A impressão que temos é de que houve duas invasões assírias, mas não é possível definir isso direito no texto bíblico. Não se sabe ao certo onde terminaria uma e começaria a outra. Mas num desses ataques, os assírios fizeram uma advertência aos judeus, dizendo que nem Deus os salvaria.
As palavras de Senaqueribe pareciam convincentes, pois nenhum dos deuses das outras nações tinha livrado ninguém das mãos dos poderosos assírios. Então, o que iria fazer os judeus pensarem que Seu Deus faria algo melhor por eles?
“Não ouçam Ezequias; rendam-se a mim e livrem-se do mesmo destino que tiveram esses outros que confiaram em seus deuses.” Imagine que você fosse um dos judeus dentro dos muros da cidade, tendo do lado de fora um exército numeroso e feroz, zombando do seu Deus e oferecendo promessas maravilhosas, desde que se rendesse. Mas, “o povo permaneceu calado e nada disse em resposta, pois o rei tinha ordenado: Não lhe respondam” (2Reis 18:36). Suponha que, no lugar de Ezequias, fosse o rei Acaz ou Jeorão, que tinham estado em profunda apostasia e liderado o povo assim. Judá estaria tão disposto a obedecer? Por que Ezequias conseguiu que eles confiassem nele e nas promessas de libertação de Deus? Perceba o papel que a reforma de Ezequias teve em ajudar a fortalecer a fé do povo de que Deus os livraria. O resultado seria diferente se não tivesse o reavivamento.
A sabedoria espiritual para discernir entre o certo e o errado na hora da crise não chega na hora da crise. Ela é adquirida antes, na proporção do quanto buscamos a Deus nos tempos de paz.
