|Lamentações 2:1|
“Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many and my heart is faint.” [This chapter is an acrostic poem, the verses of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.] How the Lord has covered the Daughter of Zion with the cloud of his anger! [Or How the LORD in his anger has treated the Daughter of Zion with contempt!] He has hurled down the splendour of Israel from heaven to earth; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

|Lamentações 2:2|
Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of the Daughter of Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonour.

|Lamentações 2:3|
In fierce anger he has cut off every horn [Or all the strength; or every king; horn here symbolises strength.] of Israel. He has withdrawn his right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.

Like an enemy he has strung his bow; his right hand is ready. Like a foe he has slain all who were pleasing to the eye; he has poured out his wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of Zion.

|Lamentações 2:5|
The Lord is like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation for the Daughter of Judah.

He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden; he has destroyed his place of meeting. The LORD has made Zion forget her appointed feasts and her Sabbaths; in his fierce anger he has spurned both king and priest.

The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has handed over to the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.

The LORD determined to tear down the wall around the Daughter of Zion. He stretched out a measuring line and did not withhold his hand from destroying. He made ramparts and walls lament; together they wasted away.

Her gates have sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and her prophets no longer find visions from the LORD.

The elders of the Daughter of Zion sit on the ground in silence; they have sprinkled dust on their heads and put on sackcloth. The young women of Jerusalem have bowed their heads to the ground.

Nós cristãos ativos freqüentadores de igreja cometemos um erro crasso: o ato da alienação exclusivista. Ostentamos a bandeira da prática religiosa de uma forma tão marcante que chegamos a dar a impressão de que não queremos mais ter contato com a sociedade na qual vivemos. Um dos comportamentos que nos impõe esse fator “cultural” é a maneira como nos vestimos para ir à igreja. Enquanto dizemos que temos que ir a Cristo como estamos, por Ele nos aceitar como somos, damos a impressão de que estamos buscando uma aceitação através da nossa apresentação pessoal em nossas reuniões de culto. É claro que é importante dar o nosso melhor para Deus, inclusive, no vestir-se. Mas, será que o nosso melhor é o mais caro? O mais ostensivo? Ou, até mesmo, o mais esquisito?
Várias vezes, já ouvi moradores comuns de um bairro referirem-se à igreja existente no bairro, à qual eles não freqüentam, como “igreja dos ricos”. Porque vêem todos, sempre, chegando e saindo vestidos de gala. Em plenos 35 graus, de terno e gravata! Isto é muito diferente, para não dizer, ridículo. Coloque-se no lugar de um sem-igreja, que, por iniciativa própria, resolve ir a uma igreja. Ele se arruma da melhor forma possível: calça jeans, sport fino, etc. E quando chega no encontro dos crentes, vê que está muito abaixo do nível. Deve pensar: “nossa, para que Cristo me aceite, vou ter que gastar uma nota mudando meu guarda-roupas”.
A realidade é que muitos não vão à igreja por comunhão, mas por ostentação. E são diferentes, os tipos de ostentação. Nem todas as pessoas ostentam a mesma coisa. Uns ostentam a tradição da família, que, sustentando um sobrenome que lhes dê orgulho, acham-se os donos daquela comunidade de crentes. Outros ostentam o carro, e fazem questão de chegar e sair do estacionamento do templo no momento em que tem mais pessoas o possível espalhadas pelo pátio. Outros ostentam os filhos: que lindo e maravilhoso, ser elogiado por uma família modelo! Ainda há aqueles que querem ostentar idéias, e, depois de muito estudo, vão à reunião dos fiéis para fazer uma exposição de sua intelectualidade. Tem também aqueles que ostentam “poder” ou status, por uma função que exerce no serviço da igreja. Certos jovens ostentam a namorada. Habilidosos ostentam o talento. E assim, podemos nos ver na arquibancada, contemplando a passarela “da(os)tentação”.
Você é tentado a ostentar o quê? Pense. Lembre-se do que Paulo disse: “Quanto a mim, que eu jamais me glorie, a não ser na cruz de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, por meio da qual o mundo foi crucificado para mim, e eu para o mundo”.
