“People have heard my groaning, but there is no-one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my distress; they rejoice at what you have done. May you bring the day you have announced so that they may become like me.

“Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many and my heart is faint.” [This chapter is an acrostic poem, the verses of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.] How the Lord has covered the Daughter of Zion with the cloud of his anger! [Or How the LORD in his anger has treated the Daughter of Zion with contempt!] He has hurled down the splendour of Israel from heaven to earth; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of the Daughter of Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonour.

In fierce anger he has cut off every horn [Or all the strength; or every king; horn here symbolises strength.] of Israel. He has withdrawn his right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.

Like an enemy he has strung his bow; his right hand is ready. Like a foe he has slain all who were pleasing to the eye; he has poured out his wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of Zion.

The Lord is like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation for the Daughter of Judah.

He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden; he has destroyed his place of meeting. The LORD has made Zion forget her appointed feasts and her Sabbaths; in his fierce anger he has spurned both king and priest.

The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has handed over to the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.

The LORD determined to tear down the wall around the Daughter of Zion. He stretched out a measuring line and did not withhold his hand from destroying. He made ramparts and walls lament; together they wasted away.

Her gates have sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and her prophets no longer find visions from the LORD.

MEDICINA BÍBLICA É AVANÇADA
Levítico 11-12
Vamos refletir mais um pouco sobre o conteúdo da leitura bíblica. Nos dois capítulos de hoje, vemos o cuidado especial de Deus para com a saúde do Seu povo. Primeiro Ele orienta sobre as carnes que são mais saudáveis e as que são mais prejudiciais à nossa alimentação. Depois Ele fala sobre os cuidados higiênicos na ocasião do parto, que até hoje é um procedimento que precisa ser feito com muita higienização.
Já mencionei que o objetivo do livro Levítico é a santidade. Totalmente relacionado ao assunto da santidade, está o assunto da saúde. Esse livro nos dá instruções sobre o bem-estar do cristão. Embora o pecado tenha debilitado a família humana, Deus elaborou o plano da salvação para restaurar a imagem do Criador nos pecadores arrependidos. É onde entra o assunto da saúde. Quando cuidamos da saúde, estamos cuidando daquilo que foi feito à imagem de Deus: nosso próprio corpo. É por isso que um dos aspectos do viver santificado, tratado no livro de Levítico, é a saúde física do povo de Deus. Do mesmo jeito que Deus é santo e feliz, Ele quer que você, como filho dEle, também o seja.
Há uma perfeita ligação entre a mente, onde entendemos a santidade, e o corpo, onde carregamos a santidade. É por isso que a Palavra de Deus sempre promove tanto a inteireza da vida quanto o bem-estar dos seguidores dEle. Porque Ele deseja que você tenha saúde. Do mesmo modo que vivemos em um mundo cheio de pecados, vivemos também, num mundo de doenças e enfermidades.
Por isso, a religião é tão importante. Seu papel está relacionado com nossa natureza física, com o que comemos e bebemos e com a higiene. É impressionante, mas tudo o que acontece com o nosso corpo vai influenciar, de alguma forma, na nossa comunhão com Deus.
Quando pensamos assim, começamos a entender porque o livro de Levítico se preocupa com assuntos nutricionais. Muitas pessoas dos tempos antigos cometiam o erro de pensar que gordura animal era boa para ser comida em grande quantidade. Elas supunham que isso deixaria a pessoa forte. Como diziam eles, era uma comida que tinha “sustância”. Relativamente em tempos recentes, a medicina passou a enxergar cientificamente que esse conceito não estava certo. Mas lá no deserto, o Israel antigo já sabia que para preservar a saúde, é bom evitar comer o excesso da gordura da carne.
Será que a medicina um dia avançará, a ponto de chegar à altura da leitura de hoje? Fique com a Bíblia e você sempre estará um passo a frente do seu próprio tempo. Fazendo assim, somos felizes.
