“People have heard my groaning, but there is no-one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my distress; they rejoice at what you have done. May you bring the day you have announced so that they may become like me.

“Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many and my heart is faint.” [This chapter is an acrostic poem, the verses of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.] How the Lord has covered the Daughter of Zion with the cloud of his anger! [Or How the LORD in his anger has treated the Daughter of Zion with contempt!] He has hurled down the splendour of Israel from heaven to earth; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of the Daughter of Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonour.

In fierce anger he has cut off every horn [Or all the strength; or every king; horn here symbolises strength.] of Israel. He has withdrawn his right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.

Like an enemy he has strung his bow; his right hand is ready. Like a foe he has slain all who were pleasing to the eye; he has poured out his wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of Zion.

The Lord is like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation for the Daughter of Judah.

He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden; he has destroyed his place of meeting. The LORD has made Zion forget her appointed feasts and her Sabbaths; in his fierce anger he has spurned both king and priest.

The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has handed over to the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.

The LORD determined to tear down the wall around the Daughter of Zion. He stretched out a measuring line and did not withhold his hand from destroying. He made ramparts and walls lament; together they wasted away.

Her gates have sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and her prophets no longer find visions from the LORD.

MELHOR QUE A REJEIÇÃO

Davi era aceito por Deus e também O aceitava em sua vida. Vimos isso na leitura bíblica de ontem. Os povos vizinhos ao reino de Israel haviam rejeitado a Deus, por isso, através de Davi, agora a rejeição de Deus também estava chegando até eles. Para realizar essa obra, Davi aceitou vários homens como seus oficiais de guerra e de governo. Mefibosete era alguém cuja família inteira havia sido rejeitada. Ele esperava ser rejeitado por Davi também. Isso seria óbvio. Mas Davi não o rejeitou. E é sobre o que a Bíblia diz a respeito da rejeição que quero falar com você. Os filhos de Deus podem ser rejeitados pelos seus amigos e família. A Bíblia diz em Marcos 6:4: “Então Jesus lhes dizia: Um profeta não fica sem honra senão na sua terra, entre os seus parentes, e na sua própria casa.” Em Salmo 27:10, está escrito: “Se meu pai e minha mãe me abandonarem, então o Senhor me acolherá.”
Jesus sabe o que é a dor da rejeição. Lucas 13:34 diz: “Jerusalém, Jerusalém, que matas os profetas, e apedrejas os que a ti são enviados! Quantas vezes quis eu ajuntar os teus filhos, como a galinha ajunta a sua ninhada debaixo das asas, e não quiseste!” Jesus foi desprezado e rejeitado pelos homens. Ele conhece esse sentimento. Veja o que é dito a respeito dEle em Isaías 53:3: “Era desprezado, e rejeitado dos homens; homem de dores, e experimentado nos sofrimentos; e, como um de quem os homens escondiam o rosto, era desprezado, e não fizemos dele caso algum.”
Nós rejeitamos a Deus quando recusamos Sua oferta de salvação. Mateus 21:42 afirma isso: “Disse-lhes Jesus: nunca lestes nas Escrituras: a pedra que os edificadores rejeitaram, essa foi posta como pedra angular; pelo Senhor foi feito isso, e é maravilhoso aos nossos olhos?”
Corremos o risco de rejeitar a Deus, e qualquer pessoa que O rejeita é um tolo. Assim é dito em Salmo 14:1: “Diz o néscio no seu coração: não há Deus. Os homens têm-se corrompido, fazem-se abomináveis em suas obras; não há quem faça o bem.”
Os amonitas tiveram a curiosidade de experimentar o que seria desprezar e rejeitar o povo de Deus. E não só perceberam o quanto isso é mau quanto também testemunharam para todos os outros que com os filhos de Deus relaciona-se e não rejeita-se.
Precisamos agir assim: no lugar da rejeição, sempre procurarmos cultivar a aceitação. Você gosta de sentir-se aceito? Então trate as outras pessoas assim, e Deus aceitará o seu bom coração.
