“People have heard my groaning, but there is no-one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my distress; they rejoice at what you have done. May you bring the day you have announced so that they may become like me.

“Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many and my heart is faint.” [This chapter is an acrostic poem, the verses of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.] How the Lord has covered the Daughter of Zion with the cloud of his anger! [Or How the LORD in his anger has treated the Daughter of Zion with contempt!] He has hurled down the splendour of Israel from heaven to earth; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of the Daughter of Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonour.

In fierce anger he has cut off every horn [Or all the strength; or every king; horn here symbolises strength.] of Israel. He has withdrawn his right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.

Like an enemy he has strung his bow; his right hand is ready. Like a foe he has slain all who were pleasing to the eye; he has poured out his wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of Zion.

The Lord is like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation for the Daughter of Judah.

He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden; he has destroyed his place of meeting. The LORD has made Zion forget her appointed feasts and her Sabbaths; in his fierce anger he has spurned both king and priest.

The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has handed over to the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.

The LORD determined to tear down the wall around the Daughter of Zion. He stretched out a measuring line and did not withhold his hand from destroying. He made ramparts and walls lament; together they wasted away.

Her gates have sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and her prophets no longer find visions from the LORD.

O ENSINO BÍBLICO SOBRE A HIGIENE
Números 15-16
Nossa leitura bíblica de hoje se concentra nos capítulos 15 e 16 de Números, mas quero falar um pouco com você sobre um assunto bem comentado tanto em Números como em Levítico: o ensino bíblico sobre a higiene. Na realidade, o ensino bíblico principal sobre a limpeza física aparece em Levítico, capítulos 11-15. Algumas das regras podem parecer estranhas e difíceis para nós. Entretanto, o nosso conhecimento moderno de como muitas doenças são transmitidas nos mostra que essas regras são bem sensatas. Para você ter uma idéia sobre como eram essas regras, leia também Levítico 11:32-40, 13:29-59 e 15:1-15.
A sensatez desses regulamentos estava na necessidade de isolamento e de lavagem para evitar a propagação de infecções. Isso era algo frequentemente enfatizado. Se até hoje em dia, chega a ser difícil distinguir entre os vários tipos de infecções, imagine naquela época! E a melhor maneira de se evitar a propagação de infecções é através da boa higiene. É muito importante. Naquela época, eles não sabiam dominá-las totalmente, mas tinham que lidar com aquelas doenças que, para nós, são simples. Mas, no nosso mundo atual, também temos procedimentos parecidos com os deles. Por exemplo, quando lidamos com os perigos das DSTs. Nós sabemos que uma transmissão de doenças como a AIDS (ou até mesmo de uma simples hepatite), através do sangue e outros fluídos do corpo, mostram claramente que precisamos tomar cuidado com certos tipos de contato.
Portanto, o princípio continua o mesmo. Paulo bem o expressou em Romanos 12:1, insistindo que devemos apresentar os nossos corpos como um sacrifício vivo, santo e agradável a Deus.
E se o princípio é o mesmo, cabe-nos ainda, perguntar-nos: “Que tipo de corpo estamos oferecendo ao vivermos para o Senhor? Apesar de que nem sempre podemos evitar as doenças, nós estamos fazendo o melhor uso dos nossos recursos, tanto fisicamente como espiritualmente?” Ou, pelo contrário, estamos colocando as outras pessoas em risco por causa da nossa má higiene? Afinal, essa não seria uma atitude cristã (Filipenses 2:4), certo?
E quando você lê todas as passagens que citei acima, principalmente as vétero testamentárias, pode perceber nitidamente que a idéia de limpeza está diretamente relacionada ao senso da necessidade que o ser humano tem de santificar-se. Levítico e Números mostram isso. E nas entrelinhas da leitura de hoje, você também o pode ver. Deve ser por isso que Cristo criticou os fariseus por serem limpos por fora, mas impuros por dentro (Mateus 23:25-28). A recomendação era a de que fossem limpos de dentro para fora.
