“People have heard my groaning, but there is no-one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my distress; they rejoice at what you have done. May you bring the day you have announced so that they may become like me.

“Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many and my heart is faint.” [This chapter is an acrostic poem, the verses of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.] How the Lord has covered the Daughter of Zion with the cloud of his anger! [Or How the LORD in his anger has treated the Daughter of Zion with contempt!] He has hurled down the splendour of Israel from heaven to earth; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of the Daughter of Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonour.

In fierce anger he has cut off every horn [Or all the strength; or every king; horn here symbolises strength.] of Israel. He has withdrawn his right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.

Like an enemy he has strung his bow; his right hand is ready. Like a foe he has slain all who were pleasing to the eye; he has poured out his wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of Zion.

The Lord is like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation for the Daughter of Judah.

He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden; he has destroyed his place of meeting. The LORD has made Zion forget her appointed feasts and her Sabbaths; in his fierce anger he has spurned both king and priest.

The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has handed over to the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.

The LORD determined to tear down the wall around the Daughter of Zion. He stretched out a measuring line and did not withhold his hand from destroying. He made ramparts and walls lament; together they wasted away.

Her gates have sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and her prophets no longer find visions from the LORD.

QUEM ESPERA NO SENHOR?
Isaías 38-40
Quem espera no Senhor?
“Quem espera no Senhor se erguerá das cinzas. Quem espera no Senhor sempre irá vencer. Como águia, voará mais alto que as montanhas. Renovando o seu vigor. Renovado em seu amor”.
Sabe de onde aprendi isto? Da Bíblia? Da leitura de hoje? O que você acha?
Essas palavras são a letra do refrão de uma música cantada por Nadson Portugal. Ele é um grande cantor da música gospel brasileira. Mas, quem conhece Nadson pessoalmente sabe que, acima de tudo, ele é um cristão que vive o que canta e que, realmente, sabe esperar no Senhor.
O que acontece com quem espera no Senhor? Como é uma pessoa que espera no Senhor? Cada vez que ouço a música “Voará como Águia”, lembro- me de uma época em que eu estava, literalmente, esperando no Senhor. Recordo-me, como se fosse hoje, daquele apartamento em que eu morava, daquele bairro e daquele trabalho difícil e desafiante que eu tinha, numa das capitais brasileiras. Longe de tudo e de todos, que eu amava, tudo o que eu tinha era a companhia das provações. Jogando duro, atravessava o meu deserto. E foi nessa época que eu conheci Nadson Portugual, seu ministério musical (você pode conhecer em www.novotempo.org.br ), essa linda canção que diz que “quem espera no Senhor se erguerá das cinzas. Quem espera no Senhor sempre irá vencer. Como águia, voará mais alto que as montanhas. Renovando o seu vigor. Renovado em seu amor” (Isaías 40:28-31).
Estes quatro versos retratam, muito bem, de onde é que surge uma pessoa que sabe esperar no Senhor. No começo da leitura bíblica de hoje tem a descrição da doença de Ezequias. Ele estava desenganado. Mas como ninguém quer saber da morte, o rei começou a pensar em como poderia ser curado. Naquela época, a moda seria buscar um médium curandeiro. Entretanto, ao contrário disso, Ezequias orou. A oração é uma das características de uma pessoa que espera no Senhor. A outra é a que você vê em seguida: o homem louvou. A música de Ezequias, descrita aqui no livro de Isaías, é muito linda.
E por fim, ao olhar para Isaías 39, devemos saber que, continuando firmes a esperar no Senhor ou não, o Senhor vem. Veja Isaías 40. Quer você queira, quer não, Jesus voltará. Você está esperando por Ele? A pessoa que, realmente, está esperando a volta de Jesus é aquela que, nos mais simples e nos mais complexos detalhes da vida, sabe esperar no Senhor. Assim é aquele que conseguirá encontrar-se com o Senhor, quando Ele voltar. Você sabe, realmente, esperar no Senhor? Ele virá.
